Dakota Transmission squeel

I have a 2000 Dakota 4x4 with a 5.9 (68k miles). The auto transmission recenlty started making a light squeeling noise when in R,N, or D. Squeel picks up in tempo with increase in RMP's. Trans still shifts and engages fine. Any ideas on what is causing this squeel??

Did you check the fluid level?

Fluid level was about 1/2 quart low when I noticed the squeel, Fluid level is now good but transmission still squeels.

It's either a bearing in your oil pump or a thrust bearing inside the transmission itself that's acting up.

make sure your checking it in "N" is it a buzz or a squeel?

IT's a light rattle/squeel at idle. Noise turns into more of a squeel as RPMs increase. Fluid level is good when in neutral position. Fluid was about 1/2 quart low when initially checked after first signs of squeeling noise.

Sounds like your oil pump in your transmission might be bad. If you are willing to get on your back, jack your truck up and place a screwdriver on the bellhousing and listen into the end of the screwdriver to hear for that squeel coming from your oil pump.

in the front half of that trans there are no bearings just thrust washers in the OD section all bearings. pull the pan and look for lots of metal Torque converter probally failed/failing. there will be a small amount of bushing material in the pan dont worry about it but a large amount of shinny metal is bad. filter could be pluging. Dodge has a big problem with TC's gutting
