air filter question

hey guys, i just bought a 92 prelude si (H23 engine) and like my vtec civic, it had a k & n short ram filter on it when i bought it. and sound was sick ass. the hissing sound.

now. i always see the cars from spoon using the stock filters. what do thgey just replace the thing inside the stock filter. so am i able to do the same. so i can have the stock look filter but with a better filtration system in side it from brands such as k &N and is it easy as taking off the cover and replacing it. and cause the short ram filter sucks in hot air. what about when i use the stock filter box. and will i get the hissing sound if i just replace the filter inside the stock box

K&N makes drop-in type filters, so you can keep your stock airbox. You'll lose the hissing sound though.

The air filter is right behind the battery anyways.. there is no hot air over there.

Put in a drop in filter... Spoon makes one for the 5th gen, I don't know about a Spoon filter for the 4th gen tho.

y dont u just get a cold air intake. if im not mistaken they actually add horsepower but dont have the hissing sound. besides cold air is better than hot air for performance so y would u want to suk in hot air?

only problem with cold air intake is during Winter... or when it's raining. You dont want water getting near it.

Rain isn't a problem with cold air intakes unless you plan on swimming with your car. The filter has to be completely submerged to water log your motor. Why would they make a product if you couldnt use if in every day driving conditions? Winter is never bad for a cold air intake, that is where its power shows the most, because of all the cold air it has access to. Anyway, if you want to use the stock box, I recommend taking out the lower part of the air box, the part that goes down under your fender and into gay airboxes that rob hp. There is a butterfly valve down here that you really dont want if you're lookin for power. Cut the top of this second piece off so that it will still clip on to your top box, so the new filter wont fall out, buy a drop in air filter, put it in, clip the two together and lay it right on top of the now open hole that you have in your engine bay by the front right fender. Make sure you get all the crap out of the bottom part of the fender first so that you can see straight down to the ground. This will be like a cold air/ short ram intake hybrid, and it will look stock. Good luck!!

If you really want something awesome and JDM, buy a universal ARC brand filter, it has plexiglass on top of an orange filter that will just slide right in to the intake tube, so now you've taken out the entire airbox system and you can see that phat square, box style intake, and still retain the factory intake tube for that clean look.
