Wet Floorboards

The other night I went out to my car and noticed my passengers backseat floorboard was soaked. It literally had a puddle. I thought maybe I was pranked and someone poured a drink back there, because nothing else was wet. The door wasn't left open, the back seats weren't wet and it was only on the floorboard. Anyhow I cleaned it up, and a couple days later the same thing happened same floorboard, and today I noticed it's starting to get wet on the drivers side floorboard. Again nothing else is wet, it did rain for a couple of days pretty hard, but it's just weird how only the floorboard is wet. It's not wet under the seat the door jam isn't wet. Has anyone ever heard of this problem and can maybe point me in some other direction, because I beginning to think I am losing my mind.

Check your tailights and see if the gaskets are ok or if the lights are screwed in all the way. I had a set of aftermarket lights on my neon and that happened to me cuz they weren't sitting flush so water got in......good luck!!

Definately sounds like taillight gaskets to me, it's a common problem.

How does one go about fixing the problem of water leaking in through the tail lights? Would you use a silicone sealant? My spare tire area is flooded, as well and the back passenger seat floorboard had the same kind of puddle after a rainstorm a month or so ago. Not to mention the front driver's side and passenger side floorboards also flooding. It is now raining cats and dogs outside and I am terrified it will happen again... Any suggestions? I had the same problems, few weeks ago and thanks to this forum and the guys here they're all fixed now.

The guys are right, the problem is with the tail light gasket. Get yoursef a good silicone sealant, take off the tail lights and clean the surfaces well and let dry. Apply sealant et voilas. My trunk had so much water in the spare tire well that it was overflowing to the back of the cabin (seat and floor were soaked). The whole job takes less than an hour (with some time for a drink :). By the way it is a good idea to take the spare tire out and all the lining and dry it for a couple of days, and if the weather permits open all the windows in your car for a day to dry the inside.

One other way for water to get in is around the trunk gasket.
Depending on whether you park on a hill with the front uphill or downhill.
if the front of the car is downhill. water can puddle up at the front of the
trunk hood and get in. especially if the gaskets are older and or the trunk hinges / arms are a little bend (not uncommon). a way to check is if you have fold down seats is to crawl into the closed trunk area and see if you can see light anywhere around that gasket. any small leak will let water in. even when driving water can be sucked into the trunk area by aerodynamic's. The trunk has a lower pressure than the outside and water can be pushed through weak gaskets.

I also drilled 2 1/2" holes in my spare well to relieve any water that might get in else where.
