October 4, 2004 I had to replace the transmission in my 2000 Jimmy. I had it in the dealership prior because it was slow taking off from a stopped position. They ran diagnostics, found nothing, checked fluid and it was fine then sent me on my way with a response "no problem found" at 45,600 miles. At 62,000 miles the SES light started coming on and going off. They thought it was a sensor. Then, on October 4, 2004 the vehicle would not shift properly in drive and would not go in reverse at all. The dealer towed it to the dealership, ran diagnostics, found nothing, checked fluid and it was fine. This time they called the extended warranty company for permission to pull the pan. In pulling the pan they found "excessive metal" in the pan requiring a new transmission at the tune of $2,800. out of my pocket because the extended warranty company refused payment because I didn't have the transmission serviced at 50,000 miles. GMC dealer told them it wouldn't have mattered if I serviced in 10 times, it would not have avoided the problem with the transmission. I spoke with GMC and they wouldn't reimburse me, even though I had it at the dealership at 45,600 miles for the problem and the mechanic didn't detect it because I didn't have the transmission serviced at 50,000 miles. The same excuse they faulted the extended warranty company for using. The rep at GMC whispered into the phone that they have had this problem with several 2000 Jimmy transmissions and to tuck my receipt away and if it does become a recall they will reimburse me 100%. If you have a SES light and the vehicle hesitates to move, I believe you have a transmission problem and make them pull the pan, otherwise, until you can no longer go in reverse, they will not know the problem.

1. Can you describe the problem you were having taking off? It sounds like I may be having a similar problem with my 2000
2. Go after the dealer, they had it a t 45000 miles, they should have serviced the tranny then!
3. I am suprised at GMC. I had a similar experience with my Pontiac, although I had a long repair track history. I paid 1100 of a 2500 dollar bill to replace the tranny. POntiac worked with me after I threatened to never by any GM product again. I came with 3yrs/50k mile warranty.
