I am starting a new thread because no one has answered my original question.
Does anyone know the location of the oil level switch in a 1987 944? Note it is not the "Oil Pressure Sending Unit".
Any idea how to troubleshoot the switch?
Problem: Oil level idiot light on the dash is illuminated when the car is running.

Sir,
Maybe Iam completely wrong, but if you read what we have written (surely taken some time to educate you) you will not be rushing to conclusions. There is no Oil Light Sensor in 87 944's, now what you have stated as seeing in your wiring diagram, please paste it to the post and I shall tell you where it leads.
I would suggest you read up on Oil Pressure Sending Units and see what their function then read up on the Pressue Relief Valve and its function.
if all fails open another thread :)

JI,
The oil pressure sending unit has 2 purposes, provide pressure readings to the pressure gauge on the dash and provide a signal to the dash cluster to keep the oil pressure idiot light off. The pressure relief valve is mechanical only and does not have an electrical connection to the dash oil level idiot light. I looked at the oil pan today and there is a sensor on the oil pan located above the oil drain bolt with a single wire (white/yellow) connected to it. Looks like an oil level sensor to me. This wire matches the wiring schematic.
Now that it is clear there is a oil level switch in a 1987 944, does anyone know where to order one on-line?

Thank You Klinker, I now understand that there is one, unfortuantly british 86- 88 944 models, of which I owned three 2 86's and 1 88 don't have what you are reffering too as the switch above the drin plug. I wil certainly find out via VIN what year and then ask my dad you is a retired Porsche Tech..
thnx for the info once again...regarding "where you can get the part" try the dealer or the junk yard, Now that you know where it is :)
