Have a 94 Metro 3 cyl 1 liter. It started missing and back firing for a few minuites then ran ok home. The idle was too high so I shut if off and on 2 times and on the 3rd time it would not start. Can't read the ECM codes. When I put the fuse in the test port of the fuse block, turn on the key, the Check engine light will not even light to show a bad ECM. NO Check engine light at all. I can get the car to start while fuel is dripped into the throttle body. Will a bad computer cause this "no Check engine light" when trying to get codes? Or is it a power to the computer problem or will a shorted sensor cause this?

I think your ECM wiring harness has come loose. A bad ECM turns the light steady on when the diagnostic fuse is inserted. Sounds like the engine isn't getting any data from the computer and cannot run properly.

Cpunet (and other metrobrothers)
A really good link. Try these manual test to see what you get.

Hope this helps you out.

A check engine light will come on only if a sensor is giving out readings that are out of range, or not at all. If you have a bad injector/bad cap and rotor or anything like that, a check engine light will most likely not come on. Make sure your fuel pump is ok, no vacuum leaks, or anything like that. If you had a high idle, then it puked, you may have a bad injector, or a bad vacuum leak. Possibly a clogged fuel filter.
