Hello 944 owners...recently i purchased a 1987 944 turbo. I drove the car for about a month before it left me sit on the highway. At first i thought the timing belt went because the car died so abbrubtly, but after taking it to a freind of mine who is a mechanic i found that the car was not getting fuel. I had him replace the fuel pump and fuel relay. The car ran but then died after a few minutes. They decided the problem was in the fuse box so they too it apart and totally cleaned the whole thing. (couldn't find anything) Once again the car ran then died shortly thereafter.
Now i have the car at home sitting under a cover...when i want to start it, i wiggle the fuel relay while turning the car over. Eventually it starts, runs for a few minutes and dies. It does not restart till after i let it sit for a while.
I feel i have done all i can, I'm thinking of taking it to the dealership, but who wants to drop that much loot if they don't have to. Does anyone know what my problem might be...if so please get back to me...I'm need my TURBO

Have you tried jumpering the fuel pump relay?
Go to www.clarks-garage.com
Look up Garage Shop, DME Relay, Tech Info & Testing
Other things.
Fuel filter, have you changed yours lately?!
Water temp sensor. It plays a role in the fuel metering.
Fuel pressure regulator (maybe) No fuel, good running pump, bad regulator
AFS (or equivelent) gone bad.

One day mine would start, but then die...or just not start at all. I found that the problem was the speed and flywheel sensors behind the engine had gone bad. You can test those with a volt meter by placing the leads on some of the prongs in the plugs, I'll try and find what the readings were supposed to be if the problem isn't one of the other things already mentioned.
