I have an 88 prelude si 5 speed. Im looking for engine mod ideas to increase HP. I know there isnt alot available. I already have full exhaust setup and cai. I have a garrett turbo in the works but it wont be till this winter. I am looking to do something with the head for sure. If i dont have it P/Polished I would like to find out if i can use a Vtec head from a b20a5 CRV. What else can I do to this antique honda motor

Dude im in the same boat as you if not worse. I run a 88 lude S with the dual carbs. Im hoping to swap your motor into mine for more performance. Id say internals and lots of boost. Wish I could be of more help to you but like I said im stumped for performance as well.

I could always swap the motor but why when I have low miles for this 88? I am trying to make the most of this motor and build a better one on a stand. when this one dies I will drop in one that i had time and $$ to build

First to answer your question about the crv, no it won't work people have tried vtec heads from b series motors they don't work. The b series in the crv the 16's b18s are different totaly from the older preludes b series. Your best bet to gain the most power it turbo. Other wise you have the best mods for power as it is. The most restrictive point on these motors is the stock exaust manifold. You can't stroke it they have no kits to do this or other honda parts that will work for a stroke kit.

Thanks alot for you input. Looks like I will just have to do turbo.

well, you could always have a pro machine shop bore it and stroke it and forge the custom internals to fit. but thats ALOT of money.
ive got a b21a which is basically in the same boat, and ive pretty much decided intake and exhaust is as good as its gonna get, especially on a college kids budget

An h22 is the only swap that can be done, well not can but they only make mounts for it. but anyone I've talked to that has done it spends like 6k doing it. Also you have to rewire the everything major pain. If you want quick and cheap turbo is your best bet. I spent 1500 doing mine and run 7psi its the best thing I've done. had it running for little more than a year and still runs strong although the stock clutch is starting to give a little. You won't be dissapointed.

not true.
you can swap a b18 as well.
which makes more power...
come on dave... ;)
swapping an EFI motor into the carb car requires quite a bit of work, like all new fuel lines/pump/etc.
not worth it...
you can get a DC header, thermal exhaust and some ebay intake, and you'll be making much better power

I know it can be done, Its just not a common swap. Just stick with the turbo.
