I have a 1997 Elantra GLS and I have replaced the battery the alternator three times and the starter once, I still have same problem the alternator will charege for about the to four hours and then it will go dead and run straight off the battery. After that I can jump it and pull the positive cable off and it will die but if I do that with a new alternator then the ting runs fine. I can not figure it out I tried tracing wires back and found no problems I was hopeing someone had same problem and could tell me a fix or what to look at and for. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The Elantra has been noted by some to have ground issues. I have had my car try to die twice. Don't know if this is the solution but it may not be a waste of time to check and or replace your ground wires especially from the battery, and coil pack. The websites recommend a minimum of 8 gauge, I would use at least 4 on the battery. You can be cost effective and use Audio cable from a sound shop or I have seen grounding kits on the net.

when it is charging do you know the voltage with a dvom on battery it shuld be about 14 volts if it is excessivly high it will burn out the alt fast . now you may need to take it in to someone who is good with electrical work but i would check fuses firt and see if the voltage sensing wire white/yellow reads 12 w koeo
