tonite i was sitting at a stop light waiting for the light to turn green. as i took off i noticied a shuddering coming from, i believed was the driver side of the car. i belived it to be a flat tire. when i got out to check everything was fine but my exhaust sounded different, it sounded literally comin out in "put put put" with spce sin between. i then cheked under the hood. the engine seemed to be moving an awful lot for it to be only idling. also i heard a slight constant ringing noise comin from near the fuel injectors. i decided i needed to get home and drove home. while driving i noticed a slight jerking not constant but rather erratic with spaces in between the jerking. the jerking seemed to be coming from the engine again, however my rpms stayed level. also my accelration has gone to shit i feel like im driving my moms mini-van. i have no clue what could be wrong , but my first thought was to the transmission. please help

sounds like you might have lost compression in one of your cylinder's, see if there's any oil leak's around the valve cover or by the spark plugs
of course i could be completely off and wrong but worth a check.

well....theres no way it could be an engine mount. you might have bent a valve or something and lost compression like 510prelude said.

well if it is compression, i guess im going to need a whole new engine, unless tehre is a cheaper way to fix this problem. any ideas u guys?

yeah lost compression lost cylinder maybe new piston rings no need for a new engine, did you do the oil leak check i told you to do? it there are leaks around the sparks probally need new piston rings

nope no oil leaks. i havent seen any oil leaks or fluid leaks anywhere on the block. can i do more damage to my car whiel running on only the 3 cylinders

So u have a 92 lude. Ok. First of all, when u say running rough, please elaborate. I have an 84 prelude with tons of vaccuum hoses. Shortly after I bought the cart it began to idle badly every once in a while usually when cold but not always. I was and am very into cars but to me it felt like my timing was off or a cylinder was not firing correctly etc. This was not the case however. It turns out that it is idling rough for whatever reason, but feels like it is misfiring. I would just consider the possibility that this could be the case for u. Remember, the people on this site only go by what u say is wrong, and may not be correct. No offense guys! Just make sure u check out everything u can and good luck!

What do your spark plugs look like? Could be a good indicator of what is wrong.

i dont know much about this kind of thing, but if it was a cylinder wouldnt his rpm's be higher than usuall and when its idling wouldnt the rpm's be higher?

Check your injectors, To check, you can use a mechanics stethoscope and use it to listen to each individual injector when the engine is on. Or when the engine is off, remove the metal clasp that holds the wireharness to the injector, do this for all four injectors. Next start the engine and one at a time pull of a harness and see if there is a change in the smoothness of the engine. If the engine idle becomes worse, replace harness and try the next one. If you pull one out and it doesn't change anything with the engine idle, you might have found your prolem injector. Also, it is possible that two injectors are not working. Dont just throw you injectors out, the problem could be the absence of an electrical signal to the injector. Anyways, just try it out.

I hope it's not the rough idling you get when one cylinder isn't firing.

Have you changed your timing belt? How many miles was on the motor? Cuz if you didn't change the timing belt it coulda slipped or broke and the piston mighta smashed the valves up makin it lose compression. Just my 2 cents.

Your supposed to get a timing belt change at 60k.
