prelude handling??

hey folks im getting a 92 prelude s and i was wondering what these beasts handle like if its good or what?? i had a mazda mx3 before this i hit a pole so yeah need a new car but the mx3 handled pretty nicely well amazingly if you ask me just wondering if the prelude will be anything like it

Well if u have the 4th gen lude, i know with the si it comes with double wish bone suspension = pretty darn good handling. But im not sure with the s model. Most likely it does. Someone else can quote me on this.

I live near some really curvy moutain roads and I've taken my car up there. The stock suspension is pretty nice, but the car feels kind of heavy through sharp turns because I've driven civics as well, but maybe because I have the h23 instead of the f22.

It does have double wishbone suspension and front and rear stablizer bars.


The prelude should handle better and accelerate faster than the mx-3. I wonder where mazda went wrong when they made a 1.8L v6 engine, one of the smallest ever made. :screwy:

hey that 1.8L v6 was hard a$$ trust me i went through a couple. is the s model really going to accelerate faster than the mx3 its got the same horsepower but the prelude weighs a few hundred pounds more.

I agree that the lude handles quite well compared to most, although i still feel it lacking somewhat.

FF + Heavy ass car = Heavy ass understeer.
I suppose its time i invested in some tie bars? :naughty:

1992 prelude S - 2765 lbs.
Horsepower: 135 hp
Torque: 142 ft-lbs.

I won't know which year mx-3 you had, but I'm assuming you had the

1.8L v6 version. Same body style for 92-95, so
1992 mx-3 GS - 2541 lbs
Horsepower: 130 hp
Torque: 115 ft-lbs.

close hp, but look at the torque difference. You'll feel that extra 27 ft-lb of torque. if you were able to get the VTEC or Si version, you'd have a little more torque.

it's sad to see a v6 only put out 115 lbs of torque, but you gotta praise them for their 1.3L R2 TT engine that put out Horsepower: 255 hp
Torque: 217 ft-lbs.

Let's see if Geo/Chevy can turbo their 1.0L 3 cylinder motor to put out that much power.

whats a good way to lighten up these cars cause you could take out the back seats and set your weight distribution off even more is there a way to get weight off the front thats easy to do?

oh another thing why doesnt the torque jump up in the vtech why is it still the same as the si ? just thought that was pretty gay for all you guys raggin on my 1.8L v6

just so you know, we weren't raggin on your motor. i personally really have nothing against it. its actually pretty awesome to have that many cylinders in such a small motor.

there isn't much of a torque difference between the si motor (h23) and vtec motor (h22) because they are the same motor in essence. if anything you should be surprised that the h22 has about the same torque as the h23, seeing as the vtec motor is actually *smaller* than the si motor. Also, you must note that they make peak torque at different rpms. Please look into how vtec works before you make judgement on torque difference between the two motors.

anyway, a good start in weight reduction without throwing off your weight distribution is some lightweight forged wheels.

well, granted torque is dependent on rpm. the h22 reaches peak torque at higher rpms than h23. and being able to rev to 7.2 makes more hp over the h23.

I think it's the honda pride. when you get your prelude, you'll get hooked too.

yep, I think only difference was S did not have ABS, had an f22, and smaller 14" rims.

batmx3man, if you can afford it, hold out for a si or vtec. the s is considerbly slower, although i only drove an auto. also, the preludes susp. is very nice indeed, but if you ever plan to put any money into the susp., you will be very very pleased. mine completely redone, and i greatly enjoy taking the longer way everywhere i go, just to hit curvier roads :smile:

yeah i know what you mean about going out of the way for curvey roads but i kinda totalled my mx3 and theres nothing where i live car wise. and hey i can always put a vtech in the thing if i get the money. but all i need is a car until i can afford the insurance on a 3000GT VR4 (dream car) .
