It was about 3:05P.M. i was exiting school and walking to my car. It was raining a little so but it was a nice warm day. I continue to walk out to my car when an old man is mowing his lawn comes up to me and tells me there was a big accident over around the corner and i should go look at it cause it was pretty bad he says. So thinking nothing of it i continue to walk and as i go around the corner i see a 90s greenish cavalier with the bumber all caved in and a cop and a girl standing next to it. (It still hasn't dawned on me that it might be my car that was hit) so i walk down the block some more and finaly realive that the white car that has its front end all smashed in is mine. I just stopped and stared for a moment then proceeded to see what she all broke. The first bad sign was the coolant all over the road. And then i realized that my car was about 25feet from where i had originaly parked it (not a good sign either) she had pushed it from the side of the road up into a driveway a little ways down the road. My bumber was gone, the radiator was V shaped, the upper and lower crossmember was pushed back, my license plate was laying on the ground, and my hood now had a cool kink to it. Needless to say i was pissed. It was a 92 Prelude Si with 185,000miles on it so if the insurance totals it i will only get back around $2,700 back and i have $3,000 left on the loan and besides that i have no way to get to school/work.

Is it even worth buying back from the insurance or should i just cut my losses and move on?

well think of it this way, to repair it you will probably go through lots of trouble, plus you gotta find all the parts in order to save money, then think of how long the car might last you after you fix it. if i were you, id cut my losses and borrow 1-2k from parents after paying off remaining loan and get another car with lower miles which will probably last you a while longer. I mean your in a sucky situation, its lose lose, so id go and buy a dif car, but if you know someone who can fix your car for cheap then go for it.

sad news man.. you have my condolences.. sounds like you are just stuck in a shitty situation.

pay off your loan, get another loan, and find an S that needs a motor.. swap the h22.. best advice i can give.

when do you guys think would be a good time to swap in a h22, cause mine has around 76k and i also wanted to swap in an h22 just not sure when. If i bought an h22, whats the range of acceptable miles it shoudl come with? 0miles - 50,000 miles? thanks

thats what i thought "plum" so i think its time to start saving up for the 96 300zx and say bye to my prelude. i will buy another at some point for my show car but i am in the mood for a rear wheel drive sports car right now. i was about to order rims and already had an appointment to fix the rust and get it ready to be painted. so cancel all that and start saving

yea, i know exactly where your coming from, same thing happened to my first car a 94 geo prizm. Got totalled pretty much on the way to school once but luckily for me, they gave me more than i thought the car was worth ~3000 and the bluebook is ~2300? so anyway, i was stuck with no car for a few months but ended up getting the 96 lude i have now =), but best of luck with the 300zx, those are some crazy nice cars

you could always sue him... i had a friend get hit in his 91ish talon, car was worth less than 4k and he got 42k out of a lawsuit...

wait wait wait.... don't sign a damn paper. she hit you... she's up s### creek. you tell her insurance that you still owe 3000 on that car, and can't find one for less than 4500 (or whatever). get some local dealer prices off autotrader, or whatever. show them the higher prices you find. the insurance agency will try as much as they can (within allowences) to give you want you want, b/c they don't want a lawsuit. you will get more than your loan, most likely. then when it's all said and done, tell them you can't afford a car like your previous car, b/c of tax and title, and they'll pay that too.

this is not a for sure... but i've seen it done sucessfully several times.

im a little bit skeptic, because we are probably talking about a difference of 1k, and my economics professor had the same thing happen to him where he got hit and was paid by opposite sides insurance company but the money he got was for the blue book value and he still owed like 4k over the blue book value on his car loan and he said he wasnt able to get any more money. Plus hiring a lawyer to beat them in court will make it almost not worthwhile. I doubt you can fight the insurance company yourself in court and win....but i guess its worth a shot doing what dbebsi said before just talking to insurance comapny first

i think lil schmitts is saying that his car was hit by a girl driving a cavalier while his car was parked and the damage was enough to have his car totalled by the insurance company.....so pretty much a girl hit a parked car (his car) and totalled it....?

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=161606061&dealer_id=42069343&car_year=1992&make=HONDA&distance=100&max_price=&model=PRE&end_year=1992&advcd_on=n&min_price=&address=53059&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1992&color=&cardist=21

that car is close to your zip... 6k. it has 40 less K, but that could only be worth about 500-700 dollars less book, if that. mileage hardly effects honda book past 100k.

argue that insurance company till they tell you for the third time "this is all we will give you". they never offer the max first. just like a store never puts the new items on sale when they first come out. my roomate got pegged in his 96 total piece of crap dodge stratus a few months back. you could buy on around here with the same mileage for 3500. they offered him 4000. he ended up with almost 6000  . play them right, and you'll come out better off than you were owning it in the first place. think positive.... that girl's insurance is going to buy your vtec lude, with less mileage  free upgrade!

p.s. tell her insurance you were looking at similiar cars for what they are offering, and they aren't even close to as good of shape as your car was. and that you deserve they same car, in the same great shape, b/c the whole incident was not your fault at all, and that you sould not be punished for their clients mistake.

well good news the insurance company gave me $4000 dollars for my car after they totaled it and sold it back to me for $275. so i already had $700 saved so i now have around $4400 dollars to spend on my car the damages only total out to be around a thousand so i have $3400 dollars for a vtec engine around $1000 from junkyard and rims $1100 and a body kit $1000 installed.

so im happy

i would hope that you consider whether or not you want to fix your car. im not sure how extensive the damage is but im pretty sure you already thought about what you would you do if your car had frame damage. My car had slight frame damage when i bought it and having it fixed by someone my dad knew pretty well already cost about 1100, so im hoping for the best for your bro, but im not sure whether or not ~1000 will be able to cover the damages at a body shop
