I just bought a 85.5 Porsche 944, details:

200K Miles
All records, meticulously maintainted, woman owned since 90, 2 owner
Garage Kept/Covered...Paint is original red, no defects...Looks like new
Interior is exceptional...seats have no cracking\rips...looks like new
All guages work, power windows, power seat and sunroof work perfect.

Transmission:
5 speed feels great, shifts great, no jamming/hestitation...fals into gear.
Clutch is new...The porsche mechanic popped it at 120mph (with me about to throw-up in passenger seat) and he said it was awesome...

Engine:
2.5L...Extremly clean, vacum hoses have recent replacements, engine rubber is not near dry-rot, hose attachments are shinny (meant something to the mechanic)...Car drives and accelerates solidly...The oil looks great, no milky/frothy look...They ran Mobil 1 Synth. as I am now...I had the oil changed the day I bought it...

Wheels\Body:
Wheels look like new...Tread looks to be 2/3...I checked engine cavity, door interiors, under the carpet in hatch (which seals well) and all the same color paint...

Overall...Completely original (except for the Alpine CD\Stereo), all german parts...No aftermarket...

Porsche mechanic couldn't believe the mileage...Said it was the cleanest he had ever seen at that mileage (to me, that suggested caring owners), that is what prompted me to by it...

Paid: (deep breath) $4000...I had the extra money (It's a weekend car)...My wife and kids loved it....

Only complaint...After a day of driving...There is a small drip (one or 2 drops only) of what looks like green antifreeze on the floor or bottom of the car on an arm about 4 inches after the radiator...

So, I took a chance and did it...I'm real nervous (however, I'd never tell my wife)...I don't mind a thousand or so a year to keep it maintained...I guess my question (in this post turned dissertationto you guys is...Am I ok? Is it worth it...What should I look for...?

Thanks!

OUSteve,

Congrats, welcome to the clan of Porsche owners. You'll get used to the drips of fluid or you'll go nuits trying to solve them. The 944s are notorious for small drips. (I'm blessed mine doesn't leak)

The car is worth it if you enjoy it. Only advise I could give you is that if the Timing belt/Balance shafts etc haven't been done in the last 40K or you don't know when they've been done, run to the shop tomorrow and have them checked/replaced. They are a weak point on the car, and if that belt goes, the car isn't worth repairing.

Enjoy.

Consider joining the PCA, they offer great info and you'll be able to tap into the knowledge of other 944 owners in your area. www.pca.org (http://www.pca.org)

Sounds like you got a good buy.

944's prices vary depending on where you live. Also what kind of rims it has. Cookie-cutters, and Phone-dialers are not worth as much as Fuchs.

A set of good condition stock fuchs could be worth almost half of what you payed for your car.:naughty:

How about a pic or two?
