'94 Eagle Vision Tsi - BIG PROBLEMS!

OK, my friend Matt owns a '94 Eagle Vision Tsi with the 3.5 V-6. She seems to start and run fine, but after she warms up, she will just stall out. It also drives irratically. The problem seems to be intermittent, and it almost seems like an electrical problem. We've spent the last two days replacing corroded wiring with no improvement. What it does is this: It'll be idling smoothly at 900rpm, and it simply shuts off. It doesn't idle down, or sputter or anything, it just dies. I have noticed that there is a distinct click from the relay box in the engine compartment when the engine shuts off.
Any Ideas? My friend replaced the Throttle Position Sensor after someone told him they thought that was the problem, but that wasn't it.
Thanks in advance!
-EDIT- according to Matt, it is now giving an Error Code #42, which has something to do with the auto shut-down feature?

I would try replaceing the auto shutdown relay and see if that helps. Before buying one, look to see if any of the other ones in the panel are the same, and just swap them.

check ground wires, sand, clean make sure metal to metal contact. Poor grounds can cause roughness.

My '96 Eagle Vision Tsi has the same problem. I tried all that you've said before and none of it has worked. My main thoughts was it was the prom. Because the cup holder is right above the cpu. so i'd say check and see if the prom is molded or shorted out. That is about the best bet i'd say.

alot of the time it is a bad connection at the PCM since there is over 150 pins on this and controls almost all engine related issues, try cleaning them with a soft wire brush and add a electro grease-lightly and gently.when this stall happens do you or have you checked the fuel pressure and spark? if both are out you have a comp problem internally or again the connections as described above.if you have a tester check the pulse of injector,no pulse/no fuel=problem.it sounds like the "auto shut down"relay is working.rule of thumb on this relay is "it's working or it's not" it is a on or off relay but right in the middle of all the energy needed for FIRE.if you have'nt "got er done"-repost and next checks.

sorry-as to the error 42 code doesnt mean anything if it is a comp problem.it is saying it has recieved a problem from something in the system that requires it to "shut down" the engine.???that command is given by the comp. or a short.try the simple first, then i have some real fun stuff for you 2 do.have alot of hair or several drinks ready.
