:banghead: I have a 2002 Elantra with only 27,000 miles on it I bought it new and have had it 1 year and 7 months and the Engine has blown up I have kept the oil changed and we do not drive it rough. Has this happened to any one else? and if so what did thay do about it at Hyundai? And does anyone know what could have caused the engine to blow up? :disappoin

There could be numbers of reasons for the motor to go. Timing belt break, dropped valve, bad bearing, and the causes are numerous too. Unless you didn't change your oil regularly, or abused it, probably just a manufacturers defect. I have been working with Hyundai for a year and a half now, and have sold a couple of motors in Elantras. Two that I remember both were dropped valves, including the one we have in the shop right now, waiting on a new head, camshaft, and valves. The one thats in the shop now had a valve guide go bad, valve got out of alignment and smacked the piston. Piston is ok, but needs 2 valves. We are replacing the camshaft, head, and all 16 valves and lifters. These kinds of things happen with all manufacturers, and there's nothing you can do about it. I wouldn't worry though, you have 100k mile powertrain warranty if your the original owner, so it'll be covered 100%.
