Where does gear shift indicator attach to?

I have a 92 Buick Lesabre Limited. After replacing the turn signal switch, I noticed that my dash no longer indicated what gear I was in. On further investigation, I discovered that the spring loaded string/clip was hanging from my console.

I assume this just clips somewhere back on the steering column. Anyone have any ideas where this attaches to? Can I reach this location underneath the dash just by removing the sound panel? The string and clip "appear" to be intact...I think I just need to clip it back somewhere.

It does not affect driving, just more annoying than anything. Thanks.

The clip is attached to the base of the shift bowl. Look under the bowl you will see a cutout of where the clip goes. You will have to clip it there and adjust the shifter while it is in neutral.

Thanks! It appears to be working good (only time will tell.) It was a little bit of a pain to get it aligned on all gears correctly, but was worth the effort.

It seems that you just position it and clip it on? There does not seem to be any specific "notch" or other indicator that shows exactly where it goes, so I hope something else did not break off. It seems to grip well though as it is....again only time will tell if it moves or goes out of alignment. Thanks.
