Prelude Performance: A Lost Cause?

Looking around, I have yet to see any journaled success stories of the prelude in terms of tuning. Everywhere I see stories of only the limits of the h23a and h22a; never does anyone talk about its potential.

So, my question is this. Is a reliable high horsepower, high torque Prelude only a dream?

Well, the world's fastest all motor honda's are h22 powered if that means anything to you.

The thing i hate about those cars is that pretty much nothing but the frame that is really honda parts. That might as well not be called a prelude anymore because it's nothing of the original. Thats just my opinion though.

understandable. but it uses the prelude shell, tail lights, the prelude motor so therefore, to me that's the prelude honda should have released :iceslolan

Yeah, I'm thinking of like a 10 second 1/4m prelude with its engine bay remotely identifiable as the h22a.

We've got the most powerful NA engine thing going for us, but that doesn't stop Turbo Eclipses and MR2's from walking all over us. :-(

Yea seriously...a h22a with so much work done on the internals doesn't really say anything about the potential of the engine itself.

I'm beginning to think maybe its more cost efficient (not to mention easier) to just buy an old gen Rx-7 and fix it up.

Honda gave us a great car in terms of development, already tuned the crap out of it before they released it. It's a magnificient daily driver, but there's probably a reason we dont see a multitude of serious racers in it.

well i'm not that familiar with this project. i found this on another forum and thought you guys would get a kick out of it. someone mentioned that lingenfelter's people had a part in building this engine. you know lingenfelter right? the twin turbo lingenfelter corvette that's ridiculously fast?? i'm not aware of the progress of this project, if it's near completion or if has already been completed. i'm wowed as much as you guys are and am highly eager to see what this thing's capable of.

and aces you're right, if you want cost efficient, sorry but hondas aren't the way to go. get yourself a small block chevy pony car and you'll see what a few bucks worth of aftermarket goods can do for you. even the vw 1.8t is a powerhouse. a $300 chip will get you 30hp. how much hp will $300 get from a honda motor? not even one third of that.

this is the reason i'll probably be selling my car this summer. moving up to a Z car... or something that will actually respond to modification.

A RWD conversion is pricey. AWD is a bit easier and cheaper. And as good, I'd say.

I would say it's custom fabricated. Even if they did borrow the drivetrain from a donor s2000 or NSX, they would have to fit it into the Prelude chassis.
