bad cold running

lately my 87 944 n/a has been acting funny.
the weather has been abnormaly cold and snowy, and one day (after the first snow) i tried to start my car and itwas hard starting. then when i did get it started running it sounded like a 2.5L one cylinder under the hood.
it wasn't untill about five minutes of reving and idling did it start running a little more normally, with a loss of power. all the while white clouds came out of the exaust.
after a little while after that i noticed a significant drop in coolant. my first thought is cracked block from the coolant freezing (due to bad coolant/water mixture), so i just recently put some alumaseal in to seal the crack, if ther was one. it now starts fine, however there is still the loss of power.

Well i would guess its a bad cold check valve or from the coolent thing it can be a blownhead gasket which isnt uncommon w/ 944's expecially modified 944's.

you mean a thermostat?
fook mi! a blown head gasket would not be a fun project to start in the snow...
