hey, i'm picking up a d16y8 engine for 600 bucks. what exactly do i need from the guy i'm buying this off from? the engine was from a 99 EX, but was modified to be put in a CRX. I know i will need the ECU, Engine, but what else? Wiring Harness?

how exactly was it modified?
if its been all wired to go in a crx... grab everything you can..engine, tranny, ecu, harnesses..

not sure how, i didn't ask the guy who's selling it to me about that. He told me he pulled it out of a CRX that someone gave him. ( he runs a junkyard )

I just did the y8 swap too.
I needed:
-p28 ecu
-new hubs and axles
-)OBD2 to OBD1 wiring harness from a guy on HT
-Si tranny (I had a 4 spd STD)
-OBD1 dizzy from a 93 EX (with vtec) although they were able to get the OBD2 dizzy to work so you have options.. You could also stay OBD0 and use an rpm activated vtec controller
-I also did the timing belt and water pump while the motor was out
-I could have used a clutch but I have a year or so left on mine if I treat it right... and $ was running short.
-keep the drivers side motor mount from your orig motor to use.
-Check out these sites... good swap info here

Good luck! I am 1000% happy with the y8...big gains (of course my car only had 60hp... :disappoin ...but now I estimate it at around 130 (d16y8 stock has 127 and I have a header and an adj cam gear...) Intake and exh will help a little too... But to me it feels like a Ferrari... :sunglasse

are there any sites that have a walk thru on how to install a d16y8 engine into a CRX/Hatch DX?

Whats up with the axels and hubs shit. If they have to be swapped does the shit mount up right to the CRX suspension?

It all depends on your transmission.... the engine bolts up to the transmission... not the axles and hubs...

....if you've got an si.... you'll be using your si tranny... along with the si axles and hubs..

i agree, DONT WORRY ABOUT hub/axles if you already have the Si/DX tranny. Jackacc had the STD/4 speed model, his STD hubs/axles were useless when putting the Si tranny in, they will not fit so he got himself Si hub and axles to match the tranny :)

Here is another way we've done it that work on CRX SI's that want to swap to D16Y8. Use CRX SI intake manifold (including the fuel rail, injectors and throttle body), exhaust manifold, and distributor. All these parts bolt up to the D16Y8 motor. Basically all you need to get is the block and head. With the tranny use whatever you have on your CRX, so you can still use your stock axles. If you have an extra $320, send your PM6 CRX ECU to Zdyne.com and they will reprogram your ECU to run the vtec motor. All you do is add one wire from the ECU to the Vtec solenoid and the wiring is done. It's just to damn easy. You still use your CRX injectors and harness. The fuel and timing curves once Vtec kicks in are also changed from the reprogram. Despite the extra $$, the ECU reprogram saves you time, wiring problems and maybe money. They also have extra options on the ECU reprogram if you want. Finally if you decide to run turbo, they will buy back your ECU to help pay the cost of the Zdyne Gold ECU. I would suggest getting an adjustable fuel press. regulator to replace the stock one. I got an engine code 1 and found out the engine was running a little lean. The pressure is up to 50 psi and everything runs perfect.
Maybe it's the altitude in Denver, but if you get this code that might be your problem.
