'95 Cherokee Dash Panel Removal

Kay, got another issue.. Seems like there's one at every turn, but I can't fix that 'til the work manual comes via snail mail.
Anyhow, There's a black plastic piece that covers all of the dash instruments (A/C, Radio, etc....) and I need it to get out of my way. The problem is its all one piece, and it looks like it's designed to drop on without removing the steering column but the ledge over the gauges prevents me from removing the dash panel.
My question(s) is/are:
Is there a way to remove the dash panel without removing the steering column and if so _how_?
or
How do I remove the steering column (I have an airbag, and I really don't want to set it off.. I've never worked with airbag equipped steering wheels before)?
Thanks in advance.

Nevermind, I got it - Just tilted the column all the way down and pried, one side at a time, until it snapped over the column.. Then it came quite nicely.

I also have a 1995 cherokee with the same problem of not wanting to remove the steering wheel and all. My problem is that I have no tilt wheel. If anyone can help me it would be appreciated. Thanks

My 95's came out with some gentle prying. Have you tried removing the plastic housing that covers the turn signal/ignition switch area of the steering column? It may give you a little more room.
