ahhh...which prelude to buy...

ive been looking at buying one of my more realistic dream cars lately: prelude...i like the looks of the 5th gens (dont flame me, i know the majority vote is for the 4ths), but i wouldnt mind a 4th gen if i could turn some heads with it. ive got about $10000 to spend and i want to turn a few heads and im sick of these import-trashers(sick of seeing mustangs). in other words: something pretty damn fast (i might do some i/h/e mods).

is the extra cost of the type sh (or the ATTS system alone) worth it. I also need this one to be a daily driver (about a 35 minute commute to school every day). so what is it 4th gen (what model) 5th gen? give me some feedback.

the 4th gens are the 92 through 96 model years, the 97 through 01 are the 5th gens. 4th gens come in si or VTEC versions. most will tell you to get the VTEC. 5th gens come in base or SH form. i'd say it's pretty split between the two. depends on what you want. for a daily driver that you don't plan on doing major modifications with, i'd say go for the SH. you can put a mild turbo kit or a supercharger on it and it'll work out great. but if you want to throw on a more aggressive turbo or something else, go for the base. both cars handle well. you'll love the way the ATTS works on the SH, but the unit itself has some issues when you start to heavily modify the car such as boosting too much or lowering too much. but whatever you do, if you can, avoid the sportshift automatic model of the 5th gen. just trust me on that one.

I have owned this car since day one and have used it mostly for highway driving and back and forth to work. It is black with black interior. Well cared for. I don't need to sell it... but people keep asking me! Two months ago I drove into a full-service gas station, and the guy made me a nice offer once I popped the hood for him! I wasn't thinking about getting rid of it at the time.

It has given me some great years. I still think it has some of the best design lines on the road. Hard to find a new car that looks as good and is able to hold its classic look for so long (that isn't an Aston Martin or other high-end car, of course). Kudos to the Honda designers on this one.

I have had a 5th gen for about a year and i wont get rid of it.go for the 5th it has a better look :icon16:

When they squared off the smooth curves of the 4th gen, I went "ho hum!" Anybody can design a car with squared off edges!!

But that's just my personal opinion! I always gravitate to cars with smoother, more rounded edges.

Think of the classic collectibles... 67 Corvette, 73 Jaquar XKE roadster...

Prelude is still a great car... any generation. It just depends on what style you "fancy."

i got a 4th gen not long ago and ive liked them from before but after getting the look has really grown on me. I love it now and think the looks are just ridiculously nice, but the mans right it depends on what kind of car your looking for. 4th gens are also much cheaper than the newer 5th gens and with the extra money you can get the bolt ons and upgrades you might want, but getting the 5th gen youll be strapped for cash unless you get maybe a 97 with semi high miles.

For 10k, i'd buy a low mileage VTEC 4th gen and use the extra 2000 or so to buy suspension and basic bolt ons, and possibly rims.

definately....rims are a must and if you bought a 5th gen youll have no money left for rims

5th Gen rims look good already hehehe alot better then the Stock 4th gen wheels ;)

Fastest Production Prelude in the US was the 95+ Vtec though ;) Weight to HP ratio :D

thanks guys...i appreciate the feedback. actually i just found my car today. a 97 base model with pretty high miles (125k). super clean, ficus green color. talked the guy down to $7500. just gotta get the loan approved and ive got this lude to baby and my 95 civic to beat the f- out of. first mod might be to fill the absence of a spoiler (base model) with a factory one. i dont know if i really like it without one. let me know what you think. gotta lower that drag coefficient...ha ha. and if you see me around The 'Lumbus, you know whats up.

...sorry while im at it: i thought some people might remark on my comment about mustangs. but they didnt. i know i could probably start a whole new post on this but...What stock, or even modid-up, mustangs can a 'lude beat? stock 'lude? turbo'd? i/h/e? or if you have any stories about crushing some rednecks GT, lets hear them!! lets all fight the good fight..ha ha

I can easily destroy most V6s.. GT = Fast, Si = Slow. All V8 stangs = Respected.

ive never raced but it seems to me that on the forum with the race stories whenver someone says they beat a stang or camaro they get flamed to a pulp =P.....jst outta curiosity what kinda mods you have prelewd? i know you got a new exhaust not long ago =)

prelewd...i took your point well, i know that the v6's, although they bear the mustang emblem, theyre mearly pedal cars. in fact i could hang with them in my 1.5L civic, no joke. but, yes the v8's are much respected, and should be. any 14 second production car (unreliable source) should be respected, in fact ive heard that with less than 2k worth of mods, a z28 camaro will run a 12.8...or so ive heard. but whose car will win a race in 10 years with 250,000+ miles??

i like hondas. whatll it take though to dust a mustang gt or a z28? other than lots of money? anyone know?

I don't have anything except neuspeed sports, tokico illuminas, and greddy evo right now. I'm saving for an H22 which I should be getting in less than a month. Between being in college, and trying to restore the car (small cosmetic shit, basic maintenance), it's hard to come up with cash.

I'm sure it will be the same race either way, if you take care of your car. Hondas are reliable if you don't mod them. They are made for car idiots it seems. People who don't change their oil every 3k, and check fluids. Most of their motors are solid, and so are many domestic motors.

I will bias them on this point though. I find honda cars 10 times easier to work on. Everything is where you think it would be, and easy to take off, or install.
