Well i have an HF with a sohc ZC(grey valvecover) and i was wondering how much horsepower they have?Also what do u think it will run in the 1/4 mile.My mods are:2.25 exhaust,intake,shortshifter and unfortunetly it has an HF :frown: TRANNY.

It has just about 120 Hp, Mine ran a 16.4 with DC header, INJEN intake, APEXi exhaust. Si tranny.

I thought ZCs were faster than that, especially with those mods, i guess not though.

Im aiming for mid 13's All motor, mid you my zc is built... But still, thats slow dude.

sohc zc is about the same as d16a6.. 108hp.

jdm sohc zc.....has a different cam profile over the d16a6....im not to sure on the output but i think it was slightly more than the a6...dont quote me though.

from what i have heard the sohc zc puts out 118 hp

mine isnt hitting that however because im running dual point fuel injection.

I will have 1/4 miles times and hp for you guys soon ... my friend just got a gtech.

i beleive in gtech! damnit my 1/8th times were off my 1/10th finish and .2 60'......there pretty accurate if your calibration of the meter is dead one.

A lot of people like to compare the D16A6 with the ZC SOHC, purely because of similar appearance. But on that note, the D15 and D16 engines all look alike, but are they the same...?

First off, the ZC is JDM, the D16A6 is not. We all know the Japanese like to give their engines more oomph, have better engines...

Second, the pistons and conrods in the ZC SOHC are the same ones used in the DOHC ZC. Despite what some people may believe, the rods and pistons are stronger than that of a D16A6. Better for modding...

Third of all, the cam in the SOHC ZC and the slightly higher compression of 9.3:1 (compared to 9.1:1 of the D16A6), makes a stock SOHC ZC push out 120HP. 5HP less than the sohc vtec engines...

Now, I have had the privilege to drive two separate cars, one stock with a Euro D16A7 (D16A6 without a cat), and one stock with a SOHC ZC install. Only difference between the cars was the mill itself...

I found the ZC to be smoother revving, faster revving and an undeniable difference in power. Especially from 3000rpm where the ZC cam really gets to scream up to redline. I found it kicked me in the back very nicely, better than the D16. That was why I decided to source one of my own to drop into my 4G4D.

I thoroughly enjoy this motor, much better than my previous D15.

Im sorry, but you're wrong here, my friend. The DOHC ZC has dometop pistons similar to those of the d16a1 1g teg engine. the SOHC ZC has dish pistons, *SURPRISE* like that of the d16a6. I know this becuase i've seen both with the head off.

It wouldn't surprise me if the SOHC ZC had a slightly better cam and .1 more compression as its a JDM engine, but 120hp, i doubt that.

Maybe it was a 14.6, It was so long ago. I never ran it again. I really don't like drag racing at all. I went just for the hell of it cause all my friends went together. Anyway, it was probably 14.6. I also ran with my 17's on, and I have a system, box w/2 10's 2-amps, nothing crazy.

I've done this before, but will do so again. Let me point your direction to this link. It is Honda Japan's archives for past models of civics.

Go to the line-up for 4th gen sedans, have a look at the RTi and RTi 4WD. You are not dreaming. Honda japan puts the performance of the sohc ZC in those sedans at 120HP.

And the information about ZC pistons and rods also came from other Jap sites that I translated. I will see if I can find them again.

Maybe, just maybe, it is also possible that they did SOHC ZC with dometop pistons, and with dishtop pistons... I say this because I have also read SOHC ZC's to put out 115HP.

But if Honda Japan says their 4G4D's with SOHC ZC's put out 120 HP, who am I to argue with them...?

i highly doubt a sohc zc ran a 14.6 without being somewhat built ... maybe 15's or so ... i know you have mpfi and a lighter car.

Oh, and also, in japan, almost every d series engine is banded with a "ZC" stamp. their D16Z6 is a "ZC" as well as their D16A8/0 (DOHC ZC), D16A6 (SOHC ZC). Its impossible to tell what ZC they're talking about when they say ZC.

Not because I think you are a rude person, but purely because you jump to conclusions without proper investigation. In my opinion, people like that are dangerous. Look at G.W. Bush for example.

In your case, I asked you to read the link to Japan's archives. I asked you to read it properly. even gave you a translation link. If you had done that, You would have seen that they list "which" ZC is used in each car by stating wether it is DOHC, SOHC, FI or Carb'd. They "concealed" that information in the specsheets for each model. Yes, the Japanese state ZC. But if you bothered to look, you would see they ALSO state whether SOHC, DOHC, FI or CARB.

Also, on what you said about SOHC ZC having a "Very Radical Cam" (your own words), you once again missed the point, cleverly concealed by the japanese in their online specsheets, that the compression is higher. So you cannot blame the cam alone for the SOHC ZC being different from the D16A6. It is also common knowledge that the japanese use different TB on their engines, which could also account for their SOHC ZC's pushing out 120HP.

Almost finally, I have to reiterate that a SOHC ZC is not a D16A6. It is a ZC. That what it says on the block... ZC.

Not D16A6.

Even a SOHC ZC head flows better than a D16A6 head, which could, *surprise*, also account for more HP than a D16. And this knowledge I got from someone who had *also* opened up a ZC SOHC.

sohc zc vtec.....3 stage vtec system. rated at 128hp or 130ps. rods on the d15b vtec ar slightly larger than the usdm d15's yet smaller then the a6. sohc zc....same as the a6 with higher compression and a hotter cam. i think 91ef3zc's entire point was he is happy with what hes got, and isnt really into hardcore modding on his cars, nor is he real worried about if it can "hang" with other peoples cars.

I also have a SOHC ZC question... Are SOHC ZC parts interchangeable with the D16A6, like camshaft, piston, etc?
