I have a wrecked '93 Grand Prix with a 3.1 V-6. What other GM cars use the 3.1 ? What year models could it be installed in?

The 3.1L OHV 60-degree V6 was used in:
Buick Century
Chevrolet Cavalier, Malibu, Lumina, Monte Carlo, Lumina APV/Minivan, Camaro
Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, Cutlass, Silhouette
Pontiac 6000, Sunbird, Grand Am, Grand Prix, Trans Sport, Firebird
By the way, the earlier 2.8L OHV V6 and the 3.4L V6 (DOHC and OHV) are all related. The upcoming 3.5L OHV V6 and 3.9L OHV V6 engines are also in this family. Just in case you cared.

The newer Grand Am's got a 3100 Series III. The 3.1 you are talking about is a series II engine. There is a little bit of difference between the two engines, but if you plan to swap, it'll fit either way.

Is the 3.4 liter ohc engine the one in the pontiac aztek? My sister got one of these, and she's asked me if I could find a supercharger, or new engine that would fit in the car... I know nothing about GM models and engines, I drive a cougar myself...
Would the newer 3.5l and 3.9l engines possibly be interchangable without any serious modification?? I know on the cougar forums, they are swapping out the 2.5l v6 engines for the 3.0 v6 engines in the taurus. I appreciate any help... -Nate

Well, since the 3.5 isnt out yet, I dont know much about it yet, but when it comes out Ill see what I can dig up. I wouldnt be surprised if it would fit in the Aztek, it's not like you're wanting to put a much larger engine in. Heck, I bet with the right modification a 3.8 might be able to fit. I mean if a 5.7litre can be dropped into a GrandAm, I dont see why a 3.8 cant be put into an Aztek.

The engine in the Aztek is OHV, not OHC. The new (2004) 3.5L and the upcoming 3.9L are based on the same block as the 2.8L/3.1L/3.4L 60-degree V6. Depending on where the mounting points are, they should all be interchangable.
In the case of the Ford engines, the 2.5L Duratec engine from the Contour/Mystique/Cougar is basically the same structure as the 3.0L DOHC engine from the Taurus/Sable/Escape/Tribute.

is there any performance parts available for the engines? Like new cams, p&p heads, Superchargers, turbochargers, etc?? Or am I just out of luck??
I have the four cylinder Zetec Cougar, and I'm about to have a local shop modify an ATI procharger designed for the focus, to fit my coug...
I just wanted to know if its possible to do the same for the aztek, like maybe throw in an aftermarket supercharger designed for the grand prix, or any car that shares basic engine designs with the aztek... Thanks again. -Nate
