I figured I would ask you Bimmer know-it-alls down here at the BMW side of AF. I would like to know the specs, any helpful info, and possible some considerations for tuning this model. My friend recently got one as a gift and would like to know if it is worth tuning at all. Unfortunately I don't know much about Bimmers.

Thanks for the info in advance and sorry for the long post! :bigthumb:

Absolutely not, the 318 is an econo BMW for folks that couldn't afford a 325. Its a heavy car with a small engine, Aftermarket is limited and expensive. Sell it and get a Supra.

What about if he puts an m3 engine in it? I myself i have a 318ti...1996. My mom thinks it's bad luck and it's just sitting outside our garage. Nobody drives and we just put a new motor in it cuz the old one blew cuz there was...no water in it??? i dunno...stupid bmw! But...we just spend about 9 thousand replacing the engine and getting it tuned up at 60,000 miles. Sucks to be us...What should i do w/ the car?

xx, you should sell that car and get a car you will drive. Thats alot of dough to waste to be just sitting around. Get a 325 or something of that nature. The person who started the post (sorry forgot who started it) Tell your friend that mods can be done. It will take a bit more to do it because its a 4 cyl but if can be done. A good suggestion was to put a 6 in it. An M motor would be the best idea for that car. Although it can be expensive, it can be done. Other than a motor swap, check with dinan. I know programming, maybe a cold air intake of some sort and possibly a muffler.
