good price for new 2002 e46?

I am thinking of buying 2002 325i. I really want the 330 but it's out of my price range. Anyhow, I just did some research on line and for a 2002 325i manual, with sport + premium package and xenons, edmunds.com shows that the car should cost $32,545 including the destination charge (but not with tax and license). Does this sound too cheap or reasonable. I went to the dealer two days ago, and the salesman quoted me $34,470 for the exact same car with the same options! :flipa: SO, I was wondering how much people on this board paid for their new 325i or even 330i, not including tax and license. I am in CA by the way if that matters at all... I would hate to get ripped off

That salesperson quoted you the MSRP for that particular car + the options. If you go onto http://www.bmwusa.com/ you can build your 3-series online and see the MSRP. I did that for your setup there and got the number that he gave you ($34,470). Were you looking at an invoice price on edmunds.com per chance? From what I've heard and read, getting even $1000 knocked off of retail is considered a great deal for the brand new BMWs. I guess you have to see how good your skills of negotiation are. :)

But if you're really looking for a deal you might want to look at the 2001's. Those are the cars that the dealers are trying to get rid of and so they'll be more reasonable in negotiating a lesser price. Who knows, you may even be able to score a new 2001 330i for just a few thousand more than a 2002 325i. As of a couple of weeks ago, a dealership near me still had a few 2001's on the lot, but they were disappearing pretty fast.

You should definitely be able to do better than over MSRP. I recently ordered a 2002 325 in the greater LA area. I started with a quote from CarsDirect.com, which was invoice + 1850 for an 02. I took the quote to the fleet manager (use your credit union, auto club membership, costco membership, etc to get a fleet referral). He beat the CarsDirect price and I ended better than 1000 under MSRP :). I think it is reasonable to expect to get at least the Edmunds price. Good luck and don't hesitate to walk out if they won't give you a fair price! ;)

i got a 2020 325 ci for $31k with no package, i realized on the 2002 coupes, don't be surprised to pay 1500-1650 over invoice.
Just quote him a price below invoice and see his reaction. i mean if MSRP with options is y dollars and invoice is x, then you quote like 200 less than x and see his reaction. If he is speechless or has a heart-attack then you get a fair idear of his profit-margin and can gradually work you way up
