Fan Stays on while car is Off. Help Please.

Hello,
I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GT and noticed last night when I turned the car off that I still have air blowing inside the car, not cold air but air none the less. The only way to stop the fan from running I have found so far is to disconnect the battery.

To my knowledge this hasnt happened before, but I think its what caused my battery to die. I have replaced the battery with a new one and it now seems I have a problem I didnt know I had.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve Gibson

Welcome to AF.

Common problem on the '97-'03 and '04 and up models. You have a bad blower motor control module. On the '97-'03 models it was either the blower motor resistor for manual HVAC and the blower motor control module for ACC systems. I see the same problem has carried over to the '04 and up.

You'd think with the redesign in 04, that GM could address the shortcomings of the previous model. It goes to show you what happens when a car company lets the bean-counters, not the car guys, run the joint.

Re: Fan Stays on while car is Off. Help Please.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

This is what I have figured out so far, if disconnect the wire going to the what I guess is the blower moter, underneath the glove box, the fan stops blowing, but so does my AC. So is it possible to change just the blower motor or is there something else I need to replace as well?

This is on a 3.8l V6 Automatic GT.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The problem is not the blower motor but the control module. Follow the leads from the blower back to what should be an electrical component, ie module. Located behind the blower at the firewall. That is the part that should be replaced. Normally the blower motor has to be removed to replace the part. Rich should be able to provide you with a GM part number.
