US-Legends Among 30+ World-Renown Former Race Drivers to Celebrate Revival of 100 ...

STUTTGART, Germany, July 10 -- For months the legendary
American racing driver Dan Gurney has been looking forward to a reunion with
the Porsche Formula One Type 804 in which he won the spectacular
roller-coaster race at the Solitude circuit in 1962. On July 25 to 27, 2003 he
will be able to get into the shining chrome Porsche vintage car at the
Solitude Revival and make the rounds on the historic circuit once again. "I am
looking forward to this legendary circuit. I have not raced on it for so many
years and it's hard to describe what it was like - it was simply fascinating",
says Dan Gurney, who participated in four Solitude Formula One races.
The 4.6 kilometer long Jubilee circuit around the castle Solitude
corresponds largely to the original circuit from the 1920s. There will be
races in seven classes, of which six will be a representative cross-section of
the Solitude races that were held a total of 35 times between 1903 and 1965.
More than 30 international racing drivers will participate in the Revival,
among them the six times World Champion Jim Redman from Zimbabwe the 15 times
World Champion Giacomo Agostini from Italy and the two Germans Hans Hermann
and Paul Pietsch. All of them are now about 80 years old -- a few are even
much older -- and they will be driving original vehicles (motorcycles, motor
cycles with side cars and racing cars) that competed here between 1903 and
1965.
30,000 spectators are expected to celebrate the revival, the cars and the
legend drivers. An informative and entertaining web page offers fans numerous
opportunities to learn about the history of races that attracted up to
400,000 people in its heydays. Further more, incredible details of the track
are shared with the fans at http://www.solitude-memorial.de

The Stuttgart region
The Stuttgart region has long been known as the center of Europe's
automotive and industrial machinery industry. The region has a long tradition
in racing based on the headquarters of Porsche and DaimlerChrysler in
Stuttgart.
