Center Console Removal
1998 Expresso and 5 speed MTX. Suddenly the shifter lever has no resistance and I suspect either the cable retaining clips are out of place or broken. Went to pull center console but cannot find the four screws in bottom of console as depicted in Haynes. s thre a blank plate that needs to be removed to gain access to the four screws (I did find two). I have the cup holder screws out and need to proceed.

Re: Center Console Removal
Just the 2 cup holders and the 4 in the console. Pull the parking brake all the way up and slide it off.

Re: Center Console Removal
Wish it were so, but hte '98 like the '97 has only two screws in center console, two in cup holder area, and then there are 4 10MM bolts under pop out plugs at the rear and floor ares left and right. Once I found them the console came out easy. What I discovered was that the shifter bushing on the passenger side had gone on vacation, ordered new ones and am awaiting them.

Re: Center Console Removal
I forgot about those but I thought only the autos had them. Been too long.
