1972 Skylark, what was original engine color
I am rebuilding the engine, 350 cu. 4 bbl. auto, in my 72 Skylark convertable. The engine color now looks like a chevy orange. What was the original engine color for this car? I have read it might have been GM blue, Buick blue. I am not sure if the engine was replaced before I bought the car. Thanks in advance. PS I posted this under Skylark also.

Re: 1972 Skylark, what was original engine color
Personally I like to keep my vehicles as original as I can. With that said I do not know what the original engine was. However I am sure that when Buick built this vehicle there was a color scheme involved with the engine. What was the original color? If you are indicating that there were different colors based on which engine was installed in the vehicle, then I need to do more research, ie: vin, codes, etc:. My thought was someone would know this as a basic question/ answer(obviously not me). Thanks, Bill.

Re: 1972 Skylark, what was original engine color
By the way, I may have missed the point of your question, even if I am rebuilding a Chevy engine, although I don't think so as the distributer is in the front of the block, I want to paint the engine the original color of the original engine.

Re: 1972 Skylark, what was original engine color
You can google Buick 350 engine paint and get the info specific to that year, I assume this is a Buick 350 engine which was OE for that car.

Maxwedge I assume from your posts you don't know the answer. I have tried searching the web. I am not getting the answer from there either. That is why I am here!

Re: 1972 Skylark, what was original engine color
The factory original color is Buick Red. The best match is from Duplicolor #DH-1608. The close matches but not exact are Krylon #2114, and Plasti-Kote #209, VHT #sp109. The Duplicolor paint has been discontinued but you may be able to still find shelf stock somewhere. I found some at NAPA Auto. Thanks. This post can be closed...Bill
