Focus Diesel
When will Ford import the European Focus diesel? I heard they are considering it.

Re: Focus Diesel
Probably when there is enough consumer demand.
Right now, compared to the average American car, the Focus sips gas so people aren't too concerned with going to the more efficient diesel.

Re: Focus Diesel
Alot of european car makers are going to start marketing deisel cars in america, which is also prompting ford to do the same.

They will not be as popular in the US until the petrol industries clean up the diesel fuel to Euro specs. The US refineries leave in too much sulfur.
Stink = low or no sales. They are slated to do this, but the trucking industries are fighting this because it will add greatly to the cost of diesel fuel.

Re: Focus Diesel
It might, but what you said doesnt change the fact that it is FOR SURE that european manufacturers will start advertising for deisel cars in the US within the next few months, as well as ford offering a deisel model by the end of the year.

We've had plenty of diesel cars offered here in the US (GM, VW, Mercedes, etc). It's just that they will not become popular here until the diesel fuel standards are up to Euro standards. No one wants to have that nasty burning sulfur smell when they purchase a new car, kind of spoils the new car experience. And then they'll have to prove themselves. People in the US are accustom to the black smoke, poorly running, stinky reputation of the previous versions of diesel cars.
I would love to see the turbo diesel Focus make it over here. But time will tell. The petrol industries are suppose to be cleaning up June 1, 2006.

The VW Beetle is available in diesel models, but I don't know about any others.

Re: Focus Diesel
The single biggest reason why diesel power did not stay in the US car market is GM. The absolute CRAP they sold soured almost everyone bar a few who understand diesel, from ever considering it again. GM even managed to ruin the sales of MB diesels, some of the most loyal customers on the planet. The next factor is fuel price, cheap gasoline offers no reason to use diesel.

Re: Focus Diesel
If you think $2/gallon is not cheap, you've never been to a country that truely has expensive fuel. Like $4-$5/gallon equivelant.
