Check Engine warning light
My "Check Engine" warning light blinked on for a second last week and then went off. When I checked the manual it said not to worry - the computer is self correcting. This evening the "Check Engine" light came on, but this time stayed on for about 10 seconds before going off.
As luck would have it I am just about to use my car for a trip and I've already had it tuned up, replaced the battery, spark plugs, filters, PCV, all fluids, brakes & struts within the last 6 months. What are the possible causes of this warning light and should I be concerned? (I'm driving a '93 Ford Escort LX 2 door hatchback, manual, with 1.9 SEFI engine, 206,000 km) |

if the light does not stay on, then you should not worry, I think. If it stays on, then you can ask autozone to find the trouble code for you (no charge). Once you know the problem code, you may be able to determine the cause.

Re: Check Engine warning light
my light stays on for a couple mins and then goes off, alot of the time it can be anything, and auto told me they won't do the cel (check engin light) test on aything older than like a 95 or something .. to i don't worry about it unless i can tell somethign is wrong, i have drove cars for years with that light comeing on and never had no prob other than the usal (things that always need to be replaced anyways) but i know people are different, but if it was me, if it only comes on for a few seconds or something i wouldn't worry about it unless you can tell something while you driv or in idel .. there are too many things that will set the light off and alot of them will never matter (from my experince)
