Rear Air Bag lifts

Does anyone know if Ford ever made a Windstar with Rear Airbag lifts as an option?

Re: Rear Air Bag lifts

Don't know about Ford OEM, but Air Lift appears to have bags that will fit the Windstars.

Yeah, I had heard about the airlifts, just curious about the OEM. I see you got some installed on your Pathy. How do you like those? How hard to install? How are they mounted?

Thanks lewisnc100,

Re: Rear Air Bag lifts

I use them in my Pathfinder for towing a boat so I air them up before towing and air them back down after towing. Works good for that purpose without a compressor, but that is an optional add on as well.

The install was very easy on the Pathfinder, although dropping the suspension as far as possible still required a good pull to clear the springs off the perch. Just remove the coil springs, install the bags inside and run air lines to a schrader valve. The Pathfinder install did require drilling out the bottom of the spring perch to make a larger hole for the air hose, not sure if the Windstar would require that.

Recently I had a coil spring break on my Windstar so I had to replace both and it is much easier to remove than the Pathfinder suspension. After unbolting the shocks, as you lower the suspension the coil springs basically fall out on their own. Should be a very quick install with most of the time spent running the air lines.

My old '96 had them (rear load stabilizing suspension). I wish my '01 came with it.

Were they OEM or did you get them installed?

Hi. My '96LX has them and my OEM maintenance manual has repair information, so they are definitely OEM.
