Speakers for.....

What are good audio speakers for a 1982 380 SEL Mercedes Benz.....I don't want something that will shake it apart. I want something that will give a good solid sounds that I can control the high's, mids and lows.

Imho, anything that will fit!
What's your budget?
You can go with some Ample Audio (very clear... I replaced my Dad's rear speakers with them; he likes them a lot.) to competition level speakers like Rainbows. Since I am more sound quality-oriented (which seems to explain you, too), MB Quarts, Focal and CDT Audio should be some considerations. (Infinity is also a nice alternative.) If you do not wish to amplify your speakers, I would suggest Audiobahn because of their relatively high sensitivity.

Don't forget to listen to the speakers that you are considering!

I have always been partial to Infintis and MB Quarts. They are expensive but they give great sound.

If money is not a concern, Morel separates are awesome. They run about $500.

IMO = In My Opinion
IMHO = In My Humble Opinion

Since you're rolling $$$, look into the aforementioned speakers. Take a look at www.thezeb.com for some online buys. I'd also like to mention that running any of these speakers w/o an amp is... in a word... ok but, if you really want them to sing I would recommend running them with an amp. www.sounddomain.com has some killer audio systems in various cars. You can also drop in there also. They have an informative car audio message board, too.
