Cool water in my transmission

my problem with my 1990 ford aerostar is my transmission kept slipin i would check my transmission fluid level and it would need a little so i would add it than it would run fine than one day i was going up a hill and by the time i got to the top my van was smoking bad i check the oil it was fine check the transmission it said it was full but5 when i looked under my van it had to be the transmission leaking i let it cool off and drove it back down the hill it ran fine than it started to slip and smoke so now i check the fluid by taking the pan off and water is getting in the transmission how is that happening do i have to replace the transmission

Re: water in my transmission

i don't know how it's getting water in there unless you have a pin hole in pan. do you know if the inspection cover is on the tranny? but if it's not on i still don't know how it could even get in there? one other thing if tranny check stick the o-ring that seals the tube is worn out or not stuck all the way in
hole that your tranny sticks in the tube.

Does it look like coolant? Problaly hard to tell.

Your transmission fluid cooler is part of the radiator. You may have a small leak in the wall bewtween coolant and transmission cooler thus water getting into tranny. Do a pressure test on the radiator for leakage.

How much water was in the tranny?

How often do you need to add coolant?

Are you seeing any tranny fluid in coolant?
