Engine stop after 2 minutes-Pontiac Trans Sport 1996,2.3l,16v,Quad4 DOHC
When is cold, the engine starts but stops after 2-3 minutes. I can not start until after standing for 2-3 hours, and again stops. When I try to start, signs that would not fill with gasoline. What should I check first, what should be changed?
Perhaps some good will say, change the car! Thank you in advance for advice! It was....now engine don't start! Last edited by dorutamas1968; 02-20-2012 at 07:55 AM. Reason: new changes in problems |

Re: Engine stop after 2 minutes-Pontiac Trans Sport 1996,2.3l,16v,Quad4 DOHC
What you describe is typical of crank position sensor failure.
THis is what it looks like on your engine type. THis type of failure happens on almost any car and engine and has been documented on several threads on this forum, mostly for the 3.8 engine because the 2.3 is not used in AMerica for that car, but the symptoms are the same. Typically, the crank sensor works OK when cold, but will cease providing adequate signal when temperature goes up. Usually, it will stop the engine at a red traffic light or when you wish to restart engine to get back home after you have gone to the supermarket . Loss of crank sensor will inhibit spark and fuel delivery.
