Electric window having trouble (just on driver's side)
I'm hoping somebody could give me some insight into a problem.
My driver's side electric window would not go down. I figured the most likely problem was a bad button. But I didn't want to spend $35 on a new button assembly without first seeing if it's something I could fix. I removed the button assembly, took it apart, and couldn't see any obvious problem. The contacts were very clean too. So with the casing off, I reconnected it to see if by chance it started working again. And it did work. I rolled down my drivers side window, and tested the other windows too. Everything worked. So I put it all back together, and the drivers side window went back to not working. I took it apart again, and couldn't figure out what was wrong. Plus I now had a window that was rolled down, and no way to roll it back up. I reconnected the button assembly, tested it yet again, and still didn't work. So I manually tried pulling the window up with my hands. I could only get it to go up an inch. Then tried the button, which made it go up another inch before it stopped working. So I alternated, one inch at a time, between manually pulling the window up, and using the button. So it seems to me that the button has nothing wrong with it (or maybe I'm wrong??) I suspect one of two things are the problem: 1) There is a mechanical problem in the door, giving the window motor a real hard time. 2) The motor has a spot in the coils causing it to stop working sometimes. So before I tear the door apart looking for the problem, any help, suggestions, insight, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Also, I have one unimportant question: Why on the switch assembly is there a relay for the driver's side window, but no relays for the other windows? Thank you. |

Re: Electric window having trouble (just on driver's side)
Try bypassing the switch with safety pins to test the switch--
the relay is probably for "auto down" usually only on driver's window.

Re: Electric window having trouble (just on driver's side)
I can't comment on the relay issue, but I've had nothing but trouble with motors on the driver's side. I believe I'm on my third one, which thankfully has been working for about 4 years now. There was a point where I was riding around with a mallet to smack the door with to get the window to move! Ugh, don't get me started....
