Low Coolant Level

Do we really need the low coolant level sensor on the radiator. I believe they are a PITA but if they are there it's for a reason other than to break
...Right??

Well, if you get low on coolant, it's a bad thing. And if you've gotten low, you'll probably get lower. That's a worse thing. Not everyone checks under the hood often enough to head off issues. It is there to keep you posted. And if you spring a sudden leak, you can go from enough coolant, to not enough coolant pretty fast. Like on the expressway. I would want to know about this right away.

Yes I do suppose it is better to have the sensor I just hate when they go haywire and give false readings

Re: Low Coolant Level

I have a 3.4L 2003 Impala and I do not have a low coolant level sensor. I read that the reason is the car is supposed to be "overheat" proof. If the PCM detects that the Impala is overheating the PCM puts the car in limp home mode where it only squirts gas on every other compression stroke which reduces heat.
