Why race over 200 mph on oval tracks?
Why does the IRL race at so many oval tracks? (One of the exceptions is the Indianapolis 500, in my opinion). The 2006 schedule has two road courses and one street course. |

Re: IRL races at Miami despite death just hours before race
the IRL was formed on the idea of indy cars racing ovals, thats the whole point. the only reason there are any road courses are because fans wanted some. the IRL oval races are very exciting to watch, and if you watched the toyota indy 300 you would know what i mean. i disagree with you on both points, i believe they did the right thing by racing, and i like the oval racing. if IRL wanted to race road courses all the time they never would have split from CART. what needs to happen and what probably will happen is the two indy series will combine and race lots of ovals and road/street races.

Re: IRL races at Miami despite death just hours before race
ALL series race in the face of a recent death. Back in the 60's death in racing was a common event, one expected at leat one driver to die every year, racing continued. The drivers will have to go back to racing eventually, delaying that will only allow their feelings to fester and prevent them from doing a good job or worse, may cause them to drive scared.
Many not familiar with the world of professional motorsports are second guessing this decision, but virtually nobody in the world of motorsports does and the vast majority of drivers wanted to compete on Sunday.
