2 different 98 Lumina transmission quirks
I'm new to this site so here goes:
I use this car on a rural mail route. 1. I start the engine and place it in drive and start to accelerate normally. Instead of rolling forward the engine will rev for a second and then all of a sudden jerk into drive. Guess what I'm trying to say is that it doesn't go into gear immediately. This only happens occasionally when the car has been shut off briefly, like when I stop to run a package up to someones door and return. 2. When I go up a slight incline with the torque converter locked the engine bogs down at little and when I ease UP on the accelerator it will downshift. However the transmission downshifts normally if I press down hard enough on the gas. It's been doing this for quite some time and doesn't seem to be getting any worse. I had the trans serviced about 20,000 miles back too. Has anybody else had any of these things happen? Thanks in advance, Pat |

Might be more than one problem. Check engine light ever come on?Doe it do this when engine is cold? Is the idle speed low? The hesitation could be caused by a sensor.

If it is full all the not related external sources for this problem are irrevelent, it is an internal issue.

Re: 2 different 98 Lumina transmission quirks
Maxwedge there are external elements that effect the transmission performance besides level of fluid. My 1998 is slow to engage when put in gear, yes it's probably an internal problem but I feel my low idle speed doesn't help because if I increase throttle up to 900 rpm it engages faster. Also op said he had a bog at certain times.
