96 lumina newbie
k everybody im new to this forum stuff sorry anyways
I have a 96 Lumina LS with a 3100 V6 and it wont start i've tried a new battery, a new starter, cleaned the battery cables, checked fuses in case any of them were blown, new plugs and plug wires. When I try to start the car nothing happens i'm pretty sure its something electrical just not sure what. I've been told it may be the key cause it has that little black piece near the top of the key and i was told those can go bad I have not bought a new key yet so I don't know if that's the problem. any other idea's or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

Turn your key to on, don't crank.......look at the SECURITY light....should come on for 5 seconds and then go out....does it go out?
If yes, then check starter enable relay circuit..... If it doesn't, then the circuit to the lock cylinder may be open....you would need to ohm the circuit to check it out.... |

Re: 96 lumina newbie
Do you know how to do the ol' screwdriver across the starter terminals trick?
If you have 12v at the starter end, that should force it to at least turn over. Anyway, new VATS key copies are expensive, and the key itself rarely goes bad...usually it's a problem with the contact for that chip inside the ignition lock. There is a way to bypass the VATS system permanently, if you suspect it is the cause... Here's some good info: http://www.thirdgen.org/vats
