Did I need to keep those plastic grommets? $60?

I'm fixing the windshield wipers on my '05 Impala. It was the same problem as referenced here:

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...r+transmission

There's a little plastic cover /beneath/ the wiper blade, surrounding the mount on which the wiper blades attach. And I did a pretty good number on those getting the blades off. Let's say I destroyed them.

Well, they don't sell those parts separately. It comes with PN 12363305 (I think No. 5 on the diagram below.

The kit's roughly $30 anywhere I look, and the caps are 1 to a kit. So that's $60 for two little pieces of plastic.

My question is, do I really /need/ those? Are they just decorative, or is that a functional part I need to just bend over and purchase? Any thoughts as to where I can get'em cheap?

Thanks.

Well, I don't know if I needed them still, but I split the difference. I kept the one that was less damaged, and then bought a second one. So, only paid $30 on it.

Eh, good enough.

I'm thinking I would have spit a couple of those out on a collet lathe in about ten minutes using some UHMW and a dull tool.

I'd done a salvage yard and stuck them in my pocket. And bought something else I needed.
