gas gauge
I have a 97 sonoma that i just recently bought and the gas gauge is reading wrong. Im not sure what it is because it reads right a fews times. when i start the truck it goes down to where it should be and goes to above full tank of gas. i was wanting to hear any replys about what you might think it is. thanks

Re: gas gauge
I am not too sure of what your problem is, but I do have a suggestion for you. Maybe your tank needs to be cleaned out. I know that helped my old Monte Carlo. All we did was take apart the tank reposition the anti-reversion valve and the gauge was reading normal. I hope this may have helped some.

Re: gas gauge
Theres' probably a ground problem from the tank to the frame, or it may be the voltage regulator that modulates the guage itself

Re: gas gauge
Recently got a 99 Sonoma 4.3L and have a similar
gauge problem. Show full most of time and never gives right reading. Wonder if you found your problem sounds like it might be the same as mine. Would appreciate any help. THANKS |

Re: gas gauge
It's your sending unit. Unless you want to spend the money on a new sending unit, learn to live with it.

I have an 01 sonoma with a similar problem. Mine tank is empty when it hits a quarter of a tank. The fuel pump was replaced at 19,000 miles and now I have 50,000 and just the other day I found out that when I hit a quarter of a tank im out of gas or so the guage reads a quarter of a tank. Normally I fill my truck up before I hit a quarter of a tank but its kinda wierd. I think they either positioned the float incorrectly or there is something wrong with the sending unit itsself.
