Does anyone have or know of a fairly easy way to change plugs(all)in the 3.0?without major surgery?not counting pulling the motor out.
Please,please. |

Re: 93 aerostar sparkplugs
I have changed plugs in more than afew of them and I am sure there is no easy way. Keep in mind they like to sieze and break off also. mostly the right side for some reason.

Re: 93 aerostar sparkplugs
Yeah,it may seem odd to drill a hole through the firewall or top cowl {where the hood hinge end of the hood meets the vent cowl}. But, like dog and bsr have stated, there is NO easy way, just a few less drastic ways. Take the inside engine cover off { easiest to take out the floor cupholder first, trust me}, and contort yourself to look inside the engine that is viewable, you'll see the value of drilling a hole or two to get to the suckers. Make sure you have a flex-head socket, with a long handle the better. Don't bother with swivel joint adapters, they'll just flop around in that tight space.
You may want to think of removing the dist. cap and rotor, and get the plug wires out of the way for better clearance. Damn thing is right in the middle of where you have to start reaching into. Not hard to remove, a little contorting will be needed, but two phillips screws is all. Rotor will just slip off, no screws. If you already found some of this out, I'm not belittling, I just don't know what U know. The plugs do seize, partly because they are so hard to pull, they tend to sit in the ports for way past their useful life. If U can, try to WD-40 type lube around the plug ports, be very generous. With a bit of examination, you'll see what we mean about the access holes you need. One other possible is to safely raise the front end so you can under it easy, and try to reach up from underneath. Good luck, try not to get too frustrated. |

Re: 93 aerostar sparkplugs
This is a video I made with me getting to that plug...lolz
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbS5JthGhXE I'm using an electric drill with 3" hole saw, it was my first time using a hole saw...lolz! But it will give you an idea where to put the hole. once ur done smooth out the edges and get either a grommet or ducktape a rubber mat over the hole before you put ur carpet back. |

Yeah, cool video, shows where to put the hole in!!!! See, people, we aren't crazy when we said to drill. The hole location also can help access the mid passenger-bank plug too, with a bit of work and maneuvering the tools.

Re: 93 aerostar sparkplugs
Easiest & fastest way to change plugs in both the 3.0 ltr and 3.8 ltr is to remove wiper arms then remove plastic cowl at bottom of windshield.... Also, another question I keep seeing is for correct spark plug gap. Sticker on vehicle details the gap between .052 & .056. but this was gap for original spark plugs when vehicle was manufactured. Ford changed from the original plug to a different plug and what is called "full thread". It is a better plug, as for not as easy to strip spark plug threads in head, and changed the gap to .044...............

Re: 93 aerostar sparkplugs
I recently helped a bud change his plugs, and we tried the cowl removal trick. We went one step further and removed the engine hood, and damn if they weren't right there with a bit of effort. He didn't want to drill the hole, though, so we went up from underneath, him under, me in the cab to guide the wrench, and it worked. A bit Rube Goldberg, granted with two of us doing what one should do, but hey, it worked.
Thanks for the tip, Angel!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Re: 93 aerostar sparkplugs
Thought that sounded like an idea a long time ago and it pretty much showed me I was more screwed than I thought. However it did allow access to one.
Now that the garage is cleaned out and my Neon is acting up it's time to get serious with it.When in doubt run in circles and cuss scream and shout. |
