overheating please help
ok i have a 1990 Z...i blew the first engine so i have a jdm engine in my Z.
the problem is that yesturday i was going to school and all the dash lights came on, except the check engine....the alternator belt was gone, so i replace it, and everything worked fine...but then i did a small burnout...the top hose that goes to the radiator broke in two pieces...i went to autozone, get a new one, put some antifreezer and the temperature gauge at first didnt move, drove it like 5 minutes and nothing, i felt my car more slower than usual....then the gauge suddenly like nothing went all the way to the middle, and then it start going up and up, i shut down my engine... when i was coming to my house, the gague was on High...i suddenly stopped and when I open my hood, my radiator explote, all the antifreezer everywhere.. so i bought a new radiator... one week ago i change the termosmester and the radiator cap... the problem is that i dont feel the engine hot, or the radiator, but the gauge it marks High....when the car is at idle, it goes fine....as soon i drive my car my gauge get all the way to High, but i touch the engine and it doesnt feel hot, and i touch the radiator and it doesnt feel hot.... where is the problem? my fan works..... |

The water pump is not working......If the radiator is not getting hot its because the water is not entering the block to conduct any heat.

Did you install the new thermostat in the right direction and was it the right one for your Zed?

Re: overheating please help
Did you bleed the air from the system. That would cause a over heating problem like you described. A air pocket is forming around the thermostat and not alowing it to open when it should. Just "burp" the system and everything should be fine.

Yer right Mr. Hodo, The Zed32 has a bleeder on it to help bleed the air out, and if you don't guess what? It well keep heating up and boiling over.

Re: overheating please help
Pat it on the hatch till it burps.....
No serriously. Most of the time I park on a hill with my front end facing up hill to get it higher than the rest of the car. Then I open the coolant resovoir cap and the radiator cap, start it up. Let it run till it reads warm or till It should be warm, and turn on the heater full blast. Watch for bubbles in the coolant tank. Squeeze the upper radiator hose a couple of quick times to make sure that its flowing and to make sure no air is trapped in the system. Do this for about 10 to 15 minutes and top of the coolant and your done. I am sure Nissan has a official way of doing it but thats my way. Its not the quickest or the smartest but its the easiest for me.
