05 Mustang, v6 possibly a new drift car?

When the new mustang is released, there could be a market for drifting it. If someone got a hold of the base v6 model and turbo charged it and stripped it of its wieght, I think it could be viable. Of course there would be some suspension work done done, but I think it would be nice to see domestics go side by side JDM cars. I am a fan of the JDM drift cars, but it would be cool to see some american cars competing besides that big GTO that was at the D1.

Re: 05 Mustang, v6 possibly a new drift car?

what's wrong with the V8 model? the heavier engine results in more front-end traction. and the light rear end typical of all pony cars is a drifter's dream.

i totally agree with you though, seeing more american cars in D1 would rock. plus, all the japanese guys wanna see mustangs, camaros, corvettes, etc drifting alongside their s15's, 86's, and GTRs

You're right. There's a Dodge Viper and a new Pontiac GTO floating around the drift scene.

the main problem with the v8 is that its heavier than the v6, so the general car weighs more, i think its better to turbo it to get the same hp weight reduction is good. plus its cheaper than the gt. maybe by 6 k but thats parts that a person could be using to put into turning it into a drift machine. I have also considered about trying to find an old fox body in the mid eightys cause they are shorter and putting the v6 engine in with a turbo. Just a though or idea.

Re: 05 Mustang, v6 possibly a new drift car?

id think a supercharger would be better, its more like NA power which I heard that the new GTO drift team likes. Instead of laggy turbos.

If the new 5.0 or MMM&FF not sure which one. It talks how the one of th driving schools teaches drifiting now. The owner of the school talked about how they used stock V8 Stangs for drifitng cause stock just like any other V8(lot's of torque), RWD car already can drift easily just the way it is, w/o any need of the emergency brake.

Drifitng is very old it just wasn't called that all the american car's since the 60's with there usually classic understeer and abundance of torque to correct it lead to guys drifting through turns in road racing cause it ended being the fastest and sometimes only way through a turn.

So in closing there is nothing that really makes the new 05 Msuatng or a V6 a superior drifitng car compared to other Mustangs, Camaros or anything that american car companies have already produced. It's just that people that want to do drifitng(god knows why?) have moved to using different cars for the uniqueness factor.

That's true and but it's also not true. Turbo lag still does exist it just has been cut down greatly from what it was like say about 20 years ago. Also it is different for each turbo/motor/load condition combination. When you compare a turbo system to any static displacement S/C such as a roots or twin-screw there is a definite difference in where in the rpm range boost and max bosst will appear.

I don't get it either, Drifting is to Racing as Figure Skating is to Hockey.

I like Stopwatches and Radar Guns.

Re: 05 Mustang, v6 possibly a new drift car?

the new mustangs are going to need alot of power to go sideways. There on the thunderbird frame and weigh a rediculous amount. It think those new mustangs are gonna need atleast 500hp.

that statement shows just how ignorant you are.

the new mustangs are built on an entirely new frame and have nothing to do with the newer thunderbirds.

my car weighs in at 3500 pounds and puts about 200 horse to the ground, but i can kick it sideways easier than hell by steering sharply and downshifting into first.

know the facts before you open your mouth, dude.

Re: 05 Mustang, v6 possibly a new drift car?

It would kick ass to see american cars (v8s but 6ers have got a chance too) beating out all the rest is drifting and that stuff, lets see em say our cars cant turn and can only go straight lines then

Re: 05 Mustang, v6 possibly a new drift car?

My heavy V8 can take a corner faster than any import I've ever driven due to the amount of power/torque it can put down to the wheels durring a turn.

My old V6 could do alright drifting, but this V8 is definetly better.

Here's a picture of a Toyo Tires Drift Mustang.
05 Mustang

Here's another one of her driver, Ken Gushi, two random dudes, and a couple of hot chicks. Sorry, but the dudes are blocking the chicks.
Ken Gushi

Here's a picture of some drift booty. Damn, those un-fair marketing tactics. All I see at the NHRA are those "Hot Dog on a Stick" girls.
