You could get the real nice BM short throw, and it is sweet, or you could do what i did; just take the old one out cut an inch off the stem and weld it back together. I cut an inch off and it looks and feels pretty sweet.

Re: Short shifter

Don't go cheap, get a B&M. There are countless stories of cheap stuff breaking off. I've had one for a year now, love it.

Re: Short shifter

Cutting the stick itself does not make it a short shifter. The length that the bottom half has to travel is exactly the same length. Cutting off a piece of the top then welding it back on doesnt do anything except drop the height of the top closer down. Shift length and time are both the same. It's still moving the same distance.

I bought an ebay one. No instructions, just pieces on a piece of cardboard covered in pastic wrap. Best money spent yet! Took some time to figure out what each piece was and did, but works great. That thing is not going to break. Solid all the way. Short too. It's all in the wrist now.

Re: Short shifter

Well Im not the type of person that likes to go cheap, but I read somewhere on dsmtuners.com that the B&M replicase are exactly the same. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/95-99...QQcmdZViewItem

Re: Re: Short shifter

if it's shorter in height it will be a shorter throw... but not by much..
but yeah normal short shifters have different bases. So that they compensate for the lack of your throw..

Re: Short shifter

It's not really in the quality of the metal or what not. It's the precision of your shifts and how fast you can accuratly(sc) get it into your selected gear. Yea there are great look alikes but they WONT perform as well as the B&M.

Go with the B&M, I just got it a few weeks ago and its great. It shortend throws about 2 or 2 1/2 inches and it makes a biiiiig difference. I've known people to go with those cheap knock off short throws and they end up breaking if your trying to slam the gears too hard. Its your money though... (cough)B&M(cough)

Re: Short shifter

I'd save another 60 and get the B&M... Just remember, you get what ya pay for. If you decide to go with the JDM, let us know how it works out.

Re: Short shifter

MY buddy bought a short throw shifter off ebay for his 93 ... civic... but anyways.. no instructions, after the install he said he barely even knoticed a difference in the shifting length. Then my other friend bought a real b&m and boy was it worth it!

Re: Short shifter

I was thinking about trying out a Fidanza Short shifter for half the price of a B&M. Anyone have one?
