2005 Town & Country Transmission Problem
I have a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country 3.8L (129K Miles). I was driving down the highway today and the front end made a grumbling noise and the car seemed to go out of gear (High revs while slowing down). I stopped, shut the car off, turned it back on and the car would move slowly forward but did not have any reverse or high end gears. The check engine light had also come on.
After getting the car towed home, I got an OBD code reader and the following codes were read: Code 1: P0700 - Transmission Control Sys Malfunction Code 2: P0732 - Gear 2 ratio incorrect Because I had not had any issues with the transmission previously, my thought is this is an issue with the Transmission Control Solenoid but that is just a hunch. Does anyone have any thoughts on what the issue is along with recommendations to get resolved? Thanks, -Ken |

Re: 2005 Town & Country Transmission Problem
The P0700 just indicates you have a transmission fault. The P0732 is the key. Any gear ratio code indicates worn clutches or an internal failure. There may be an off chance a speed sensor is bad since they are used to determine gear ratio, but you're not seeing a code for either sensor. What to do. Make sure the fluid level is good. You could drop the pan and look for debrie. That would indicate you need at least a rebuild. I would just head to a trusted tranny shop and have them scan the TCM for codes. It should reveal more specific transmission codes plus they can check the Clutch Volume Index (CVI) numbers and determine if the clutches are worn out of spec.
When the TCM detects certain faults in the transmission or it's sensors it puts the transmission in "Limp Mode". Limp mode limits the transmssion to 1st, 2nd, and reverse gears. You say reverse wasn't working. This could indicate something more serious is going on.
