trany locked up

96 2.2L manual trans beretta

I got the car a few weeks ago from a friend, car is stuck in gear and won't come out of I think first, tried everything with no luck, it will slide in to 4th and 5th gear with no problems... also the clutch has no pressure, the clutch resevior was empty so i filled it up with dot 3 and it didn't appear to leak out but yet still didn't have any pressure at the clutch pedal, the hydraulic fluid connector at the throwout bearing is very loose, i can pull the throwout bearing just by tugging on the line, I'm thinking its either broken or came disconnected some kind of way... Does this seem like a bad clutch or is it possibly a bad trany? I'm going to remove the trany tom morning hopefully so if anybody can give me any good advice until then plz do.. do be honest!

Re: trany locked up

decipha, sounds to me like your trany may be taking a dump on you.. when you remove the trany check to see if you can change gears with it out, if you can not get it to go in to first, second, third, or reverse with the trany out of the car, then your trany needs to be rebuilt... sounds to me like your throwout bearing is broken causing it not to shift into the lower gears... since your going to take it out anywho examine all clutch components and see whats needs to be replaced

Re: trany locked up

well i got the trany out... has a bad gash where the throwout bearing obviously rubbed on the bell housing and caused it to eat through the metal housing... so now needs a new trany... hopefully i can get one this wednesday from the JY... thanks for the concern decipha
