!!!All Members, Please Read Before Any Further Posts!!!
Suddenly people think that I have brought disorganization and too much freedom to the DSM section.
People are having a problem with the fact that I let BoostedSpyder make that thread in the OT section linking to another thread. David-B wants to be a smartass and make a mocking thread like this. People wanna bitch about it and act like its so horrible. Congratulations guys, you have gone and pissed me off. You think this is so bad that I allow so much freedom here? Perhaps I should start being as strict as any other mod is in other forums. Perhaps I should be taking note to other sections on AF. In the F-body section they have 1 thread for OT conversation. Maybe I should do that shit instead of allowing you guys so much freedom. Since freedom seems to suddenly be such a horrible issue here. So here is what I'm posting up... NO MORE OT CONVERSATION IN ANY THREADS BESIDES THE OT SECTION. NO MORE POST WHORE COMMENTS. NO MORE "SHUT UP AND GO AWAY STUPID NOOB" KIND OF COMMENTS NO MORE LINKS TO OTHER THREADS THREADS. NO MORE NON-INFORMATIVE COMMENTS LIKE "THATS GAY". You guys wanna bitch all the time, then this is how it goes. I can be the worst mod ever, or the best. It lies in your hands... When I come home from work tonight, I better have some responses to this thread. People better be either understanding me and where I'm coming from or I will be going extremely strict here. It's up to you... I'm very pissed off at how people are acting about shit lately... If people can't accept the freedom and appreciate it, then it can always be taken away... Geez...

Re: !!!All Members, Please Read Before Any Further Posts!!!
I was just making a statement. The for sale thread wasn't that important IMO. If people are looking to buy stuff, they'll see it in the classifieds section. So if those items are that important where having a post in another section linking is fine, then my thread about suspension problems, which could potentionally be life threatening, would be important also. Right?
This is the same as linking from other sections here. We hate when people post links here to like the 2000+ forum about parts and questions. It's the same thing. I don't care how long you were a member here, it's unacceptable in my book. I'm not trying to be a bitch or whine and cry about anything. I don't care. If I have a problem, I'll leave. I don't think any of you want me leaving here though. And that's not my style to run. This is an online forum, I don't live here and don't need it. All I'm saying is that I believe that that thread was the most useless ever and is a bad influence to nOObs. They're flocking here in mad amount of numbers, bringing up old threads from 4 years ago, and talking about stuff that's been repeated time and time again. I'm entitled to an opinion, am I not? And I think some others agree with me on this. However, I won't "mock" that again. It was a statement, and I think it did a good job proving my point. I won't do it again and won't talk about this again. I'm not going to drag this into an on-going situation... reminds me too much like fighting with a woman (not saying anyone is here).

Re: !!!All Members, Please Read Before Any Further Posts!!!
the purpose of this forum is not to be a place to hang and make stupid post whoreish comments.
i came from a different crew on this forum, where we were all trying to help each other go faster. if a noob asks a noob question there is no point calling him out on it. yes, some people are search retarded. point them to the FAQ and be on your way. if you see it has already been done than any other comments are whoreish. better the community, don't flame for the sake of flaming. this is a community that is supposed to be dedicated to DSM and the likes. not to hanging out on here and propagating a bunch of irrelevant posts. if you can't help the question, or if someone has already helped then move on. it's not your duty to drop a lame ass nothing-to-do-with comment. i know i haven't been on here for a while, but i can see a much different dynamic from what i'm used to. i dropped the link post for those that aren't looking in the classy's everyday for new stuff. i did it for the benefit of those on here to swoop an a good deal, nothing more. what is more useless, a post directing to help or a bunch of posts flaming the help? perhaps you should look into answering questions instead of dropping BS posts with no relevance to the actual questions. everyone needs to look at their last 10 posts. did you help the original question? did you reply to someone else's reply and run off on a tangent? how are you contributing, if at all? realize that there is only so much you can do with one car. you can go find a tuning step by step guide and really this would all be useless. the difference is that we are here to offer advice and experience that goes beyond an instruction book. that is all. we created the off topic thread for those that want to BS about other stuff. we should be all here to better the DSM community. if you want to hang around and make meaningless BS messages back and forth there is a place for that. it's called MYSPACE. |

Re: !!!All Members, Please Read Before Any Further Posts!!!
I think your over exagerating the situation at hand. The problem was with a pointless thread made in the "main" or "OT" section of this board, that linked to a thread in a subforum. In any other instance, it would have been shot with a bolt of lightning and locked, and the person would have been asked not to do so again. But since it was a "veteran" member, it was allowed and even encouraged by the mods. Nice example that sets for newbs who don't know better, or worse ones that do know better but can say "well so and so did it so why can't I" type of thing.
Then some members were attacked because they were telling the "veteran" member it was not appropriate and he got pissed off, like he was almighty and could do what he pleased because he owned a "boosted" car and we didn't. And we were told to "ease the fuck up" by making a comment that we thought it was redundent to make that thread? Fuck that. Go ahead and be a tirant with your power. I don't give a shit, like David said we can just leave if your going to blow this balloon up bigger than it needs to be. The statement made by David to make that thread was ingenious to prove the point in a rather harmless way. The floor is now yours...take a deep breath and have a discussion instead of shouting at us like we are you subordinants or something.

Re: !!!All Members, Please Read Before Any Further Posts!!!
All of you need to quit bitching like little fucking schoolgirls, ALL of you. For one, I never encouraged Vince to do that, I simply said that the replies that you guys gave were a little over the top, and a veteran member should be treated with a little more respect, not let run loose and do what he wants. Get that through your head.
Second, that was completely out of place for David to do such a thing, c'mon Dave, you know better than that. Just because you thought what Vince did was outrageous, doesn't mean you can go do the same thing. You guys want to talk about the influence "making pointless threads" has on n00bs, what do you think they think when a veteran member goes and does it right after he just bitched out another member for doing it, just to "prove a point." That's fucking pathetic and childish if you ask me. Since I've been here, I've seen 3 different forums throughout the years. Before scandals went down between Jake and some other members, this place was actually a nice place to hang out. Questions were answered quickly and with information that related to the topic of the question, and maybe you'd get one or two post whores here and there with the occassional "what he said", but it was nowhere near the amount of post-whoring that goes on today. Also, n00bs weren't flamed the second they asked a question, even if it had been repeated before, the people that were sick of answering it just simply quit answering the question and nicely told them to search or directed them toward a thread that had been previously answered and that was the end of it, they didn't get told to "SEARCH YOU FUCKING RETARDED NOOB!!! GOD ARE YOU RETARDED??" Then around during the time that all that shit started going down with Jake, some of the very knowledgeable veterans started to leave because they didn't want to put up with the drama of this forum. We lost ALOT of very, very smart dsmers during that time and I only wish that we could get more people back like that again. Since the "bad times", the forum has recovered somewhat, but it has changed, some for the good and some for the bad. The organization has definitely gone through the roof, but the attitude of this place lately has gone down the shitter. People just need to chill the fuck out. If a question has been asked 10 times today by 10 different n00bs, then just don't answer. Don't flame every single one of them thinking you're "cool" because you're a veteran member and you just told off a n00b, have a little more respect and dignity than that. I mean honestly guys, when you had your *FIRST* post, what did you want? You wanted your question answered. I bet NONE of you had the slightest idea that you were signing up to an online forum of which you may still be a member of 4 years down the road, because I know I didn't, and when all you do is yell at someone who just wants a simple question answered (whether it been answered before or not), what's going to make them want to stay around? I know I wouldn't want to be part of an online forum that is full of drama. But maybe that answeres my question as to why we don't have as high of a calibur of DSM gurus like we used too. |

Alright everyone, relax. The OT threads on the main forum are so that folks from our DSM community can generally discuss other aspects of their lives that may or may not necessarily have to do with their DSMs. Rants, raves, hangouts, etc, are the bulk of what we get on the main. As for placing a link on the main forum that leads only to our adequately created "Classifieds" sub-forum, it did no harm, but it wasnt the best thing to do either, in my opinion. I personally would opt against that, only because then, you have have everyone posting links to every subforum, thereby negating the purpose of those subforums, and creating a backlog of useless link that most folks would rather not see. I am sure that folks who are looking for parts actively use our classified sub-forum. BoostedSpyder is indeed an old school member whom I have had the pleasure of meeting at MOD '05, and once after that to, trying to help him with his car. He is a cool cat who just hasnt been on here for a while, and is therefore not completely familiar with a lot of the many changes our forums have undergone. No biggie. As for the decision on locking/allowing the linked thread, different mods have different takes on grey area issues like those. Some, like Brian would allow it, whereas I would not. It's not big deal, since this is a very trivial issue that has more to do with common sense and personal preference than anything official. So, let make loveeeeeee and not war ma' brotha's and everyone have a Sam Adams! |

Re: !!!All Members, Please Read Before Any Further Posts!!!
Holy shit, stuff went down hill today. I guess here's my two cents on this whole forum....
This is more than just a forum, this is a community. Where I agree with Vince, its originaly purpose is to help guys get faster but I think in a way its shifted from that, or atleast gained a new purpose as well. I have formed several very good friendships on here and I consider a lot of you regulars my friends. I mean, look at who owns a DSM. Like half of us dont even own DSM's anymore. It became more of a social area when we all started getting on each others AIM and started using first names. A heavy social presence in the forum is totally ok, afterall thats what the OT forum is for. Brian is right though, we need to keep the technical areas technical. There has been a lot of bullshit posts going on, lets keep those down guys. We were all noobs once too remember? One thing I have recently been exposed to is how people care too much. I think it was Brian that said it first, everyone just needs to chill out. Its good to have a passion for cars and wanting to share that knowledge via forums but sometimes some people just get far too worked up about things that shouldnt be a big deal at all. I can totally understand this however. I've been there too, noobs get pretty damn frustrating some times and especially when we are having a bad day we overreact. We are having a bumper crop of noobs this year but guys, we have to keep it cool. Sure there are like the 8-12 of us that hang around quite often, but if we want this community to grow and gain knowledge, we need to not scare off every noob that comes our way. Where I do think that a gentle nudge in the right direction is perfectly acceptable, sometimes shit just gets taken too far. I, for one, will try to be more aware of those threads and deal with them appropriately. Also, I would like to say as I have before, if anyone has a problem with something, just PM a mod. I know I would do my best to help the situation or find someone that can do it. |

Re: !!!All Members, Please Read Before Any Further Posts!!!
Wow....crazy stuff here....
I agree with a lot of what is being said here. I have also noticed a lot of newbs getting shot down and made fun of because they are a newb and didnt search for what they are asking for. To be honest if they did a search on what they were asking they would probably just come across a bunch of threads that other newbs posted and got shot down too so they dont find any answers. I know there have been countless times where I have done a search and came up with nothing even though the question had been answered a ton of times. The search function on here isnt the best out there. As for the thread being posted by Vince about his thread in the classified section, I know I personally dont look in the classified section all the time but it was good to know that someone giving out those good deals was in there. I can see both sides of the argument though because the sub forums are there for a reason. At the same time why is everyone getting mad at the thread starter. If the mods see so fit that the thread be locked then they will do so. We dont need a bunch of people out there acting as mods even though they arent. The mods have been appointed for a reason. I say that if you have a problem with something to just PM a mod about it instead of blowing up and starting a fight on the internet. Just like the saying always goes.....Arguing on the internet is like competing in the special olympics...whether you win or lose you are still retarded.

chill out blackcrow, it's just a forum
going on a mod power trip isn't going to fix anything I, for one, will not be making any changes to my posting habits. If any mod has a problem with it, then ban me.

Re: !!!All Members, Please Read Before Any Further Posts!!!
i really didn't mean to stir up a fuss over the whole issue, but i'm glad to see the community come out and address the issue.
all i wanted to do was offer up some goods to you guy's first. i'm not sure who hangs out where, i don't even know the lot of people on here these days. but what i had to sell was stuff that i know that some mid level tuning guy's might want, but probably weren't looking for. i did toss out some stuff about GS'rs and lot, and that was a bit uncalled for, seeing as i'm sorta new again [other than the troopers that know me from back when!]. sorry bout that. i'm just saying try to have some purpose to what you are doing. the noob thing is to run around and not think before posting and replying, etc. i was not a very big fan of the sub-forums from the start. it seemed like we were seperating the forum and you had to go to many different places to see the things that used to be right in front of your face. it seemed to me that the main 'room' would become useless and only a hangout to see what was going on in the other subs. you first see the main room. if i had something that was important to me i would post in the main and direct traffic to my post in the correct forum. i had my old hood for sale and didn't even see the classy's so i put it up on the main board, then when it was mentioned i posted to have it moved to the right place. so next i posted in the classy's and put it out so i could be sure that it wouldn't be missed, so that all on this site could benefit, not just the guy's who are looking in the classy's. and now i'm also one of the non-DSM'rs hanging out in here. but after reading some stuff and tossing out a few posts i realize how much i do like it in here, helping out the new guy's. that's all it is, really. once you get into this stuff for more than a couple months you learn all there is to learn about the new stuff. then you start asking real questions, like 272/272 or 264/272... cheers. best. |
