Zombies in Laos!

I don't believe it, but check out what the BBC is reporting:

Quote:
Cambodian Troops Quarantine Quan'sul

Cambodian troops moved into Quan'sul after Malaria victims attack populace.
There has been a small outbreak of “zombism” in a small town near the border of Laos in North-Eastern Cambodia.
The culprit was discovered to be mosquitoes native to that region carrying a new strain of Malaria which thus far has a 100 percent mortality rating killing victims in fewer than 2 days.

After death, this virus is able to restart the heart of it’s victim for up to two hours after the initial demise of the person where the individual behaves in extremely violent ways from what is believe to be a combination of brain damage and a chemical released into blood during “resurrection.”

Cambodian officials say that the outbreak has been contained and the public has no need to worry.

General Ary Serey had this to say, "We have obtained samples of this new virus and plan to learn how it starts the heart and other major organs of the deceased. We intend to use this to increase the quality of life for all."

US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice opposed the plan saying that the Cambodian government holds a great biological weapon and should destroy it immediately. Cambodian officials have yet to comment.

A United Nations team will be dispatched to Cambodia to confirm the safety of biological research in Cambodia.

Re: Zombies in Laos!

Sounds like someone has watched "Dawn of the Dead" too many times.

Re: Zombies in Laos!

My favorite is the original "Dawn of the Dead" made by George Romero in the 70's. Pretty cheesy in parts, but classic.

HA! And people told ME I was off-kilter when I purchased Max Brooks' "The Zombie Survival Guide" and proceeded to do nothing but read and reread the thing, studying up on my zombie-attack survival skills. I'm telling you, when the dead start descending from the hillsides and feeding upon the living, I'll be SO prepared you'll want to join me and my cadre on the spot.

Of course they would have to base an incident like this in Laos -- few in the world at large really have much exposure to the place. It makes it a little easier to believe the story this way, as opposed to locating it in New York or something. Seriously though, I think a zombie outbreak would be really entertaining (except of course for those who fall victim, poor souls.)

Sort of like at the end of "Shaun of the Dead" where they have the zombies pushing around shopping carts.

But if we want to go with the typical Hollywood senario of Zombieitus spreading in a major city, apparently we're all ****ed.

http://kevan.org/proce55ing/zombies/

Whats interesting about that sim though is that panic spreads about twenty times faster than the zombieitus does. So for the majority of the time most people are just running around without an immediate threat around them.
